I always like to know if any of the story is based on their life or if any of the characters are like people in their world. I also like to know what they're reading now and what their all-time favorite book is. :)

I would probably want to ask the author a lot of questions related to his or her career history/path. Also, I might want to ask about what motivates and/or inspires him or her.
If I could chat with any author, I would ask them what triggered their need to write, how did they pick the genre(s) they chose to write in, and if they had any pets.
I might like to ask something along the lines of whether s/he's experienced any kinds of issues related to sharing something so personal (or even intimate) as one's own writing-- such as vulnerability or fear of criticism/rejection.
