Angles – Part I
by Erin Lockwood
Publication date: November 3rd 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Picture
A compelling love story about Caralee, her best friend Teddy, and her new love interest, Sam. The intensity of Sam entering into Cara’s life challenges her friendship with Teddy – which was forged long ago when they encountered a deranged gunman. Teddy will stop at nothing to protect Cara – even if it means keeping his long time business associate and once best friend far away from her.
This story is about friendship and relationship triangles, love and protection, love and understanding, and love and true love.

Erin Lockwood grew up in Castro Valley, California and attended the University of Oregon, where she graduated in 2003 with a degree in journalism. From there she moved to Denver and spent the next seven years searching for the love of her life and building the family of her dreams.

It wasn’t long until, with children starting preschool and more time on her hands, Erin refocused on her career, beginning with a successful entry into the world of residential real estate as a Realtor. Free time was spent reading book after book (and binge-watching the subsequent films) in the New Adult genre. Feeling hopelessly in love with her husband, she wrote him a short story leading up to their fifth wedding anniversary. That’s when she discovered her tireless passion to share her experience of falling in love through fictional characters. That story evolved into the first novel in the Angles trilogy.

Erin still lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband, Phil, and their three children.

● Disclaimer: There are some small spoilers. The playlist explanation doesn’t reveal the entire plot but it does describe a few spoilers that are meant to be discovered as you read Angles - Part I.
Forever Young by Alphaville h ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1TcDHrkQYg I think this is a great song to represent the opening feel of the book. It starts light hearted with twenty somethings at a party and then a wedding. Life is always carefree... until it’s not.

Treasure by Bruno Mars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPvuNsRccVw “He takes my hand and pulls me onto the dance floor. My body starts to immediately move to the familiar beat of Bruno Mars’s “Treasure,” a wedding reception staple.” - Chapter 2. There is something about that song that makes my body move every time I hear it. I just have to dance. And at a wedding, you just have to dance.

Closer by Kings of Leon h ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg3F4zpOdK8 This song is damn sexy! I imagine this track playing when Sam and Cara are in the elevator together. Their bodies and imaginations are calling to each other. We read from Cara’s perspective but knowing Sam’s first reaction to Cara, I think he’s in much more turmoil being in an enclosed room with Cara. He shows a lot of restraint because we know how he longs to reach out and touch her. They’re calling e ach other C loser.

Mountain Mind by Missed the Boat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGIIfJX7uqo My friend is a drummer in this band and I can’t get enough of this song. It’s timeless and if you live in Colorado it likely speaks to your heart. It speaks to Cara’s heart. She has a lot of contemplating to do on her drive home from Teddy’s wedding. Her mind likely travels to Sam but also the calling she feels to live in Denver. She moved from the San Jose area where her family lives to Denver, where she didn’t know anyone. “Living in the mountains set’s my soul free.” I think that’s what she has been searching for.

Beast of Burden by Bossa n’ Stones h ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS2lYL5QWDQ I feel like I should be on the beach when I hear this version of Beast of Burden. It’s the track Sam is playing during his dinner party and Cara begins to move about freely. He loves watching her dance and there’s something about the sensual tone of this song while Cara moves that ignites a desire in Sam. I think this is the moment he decided he needs to be with her all night and doesn’t want to let her leave. The moment he knows he needs to touch her and reluctantly holds back when Cara goes to bed. He knows she’s not ready yet.

Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran h ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IUfGfOK3z0 Do you know how badly I want to be on Dancing With The Stars? Bad, real bad. It’s my crazy, far out, dream. This is the song I vision dancing to for my greatest year. This song has such a special meaning to me for the way I feel about my husband. I wanted to write a book where readers could fall in love with the characters the way I fell in love with my husband. Everyone in Angles is flawed, but aren’t we all? We can still fall into an epic romance. It’s also the song that represents when Sam and Cara first, or finally, kiss. The way he waits for her before taking control is so so very sexy and protective - all things Sam.

Revelry by Kings of Leon h ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZyGWg0uqkw You can’t deny there’s a lot of alcohol and many nights of drinking in Angles - Part I. Not uncommon for twenty somethings and something Cara has found necessary to keep her nightmares at bay. This song is especially representative of the wild bar scene at the end of the book. Alcohol can have consequences - on some more than others. It can ruin month or years of hard work all in one night.

Cold in the Desert by Kings of Leon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWkYu-hYTZs The final song that Cara is listening to while she jogs. She has on the entire Only By The Night album on. It’s the last song. This conclusion to the album has a perfect symmetry to what she needs to hear to admit her true feelings for what happened the night before and what’s happening between her and Sam.
