Sixteen-year-old Marci Guerrero is one of the best teen hackers in Seattle. However, she’d give up all her talents to know she isn’t crazy.

Marci feels possessed by what she perceives as shadowy spectres that take control of her body and make her do crazy things. While spying on the clandestine group known as IgNiTe, she’s confronted by the leader, James McCray. His presence stirs the spectres inside her brain into a maddening frenzy. Her symptoms and ability to control them don’t go unnoticed by James, who soon recruits her and shows her the awful truth.

Half of the world’s population is infected by sentient parasites. They bind themselves to the human brain and replace the pathways for all thoughts and actions. The creatures then morph their hosts into grotesque monsters with extraordinary strengths. Winged, clawed, fanged half-humans become living nightmares. Now Marci wishes she was crazy, because the truth is worse.

She’s infected.

Absolutely riveting! I was sitting on the edge of my seat for the whole gripping ride! The story started out with Marci battling the shadows in her mind. As the story progresses, she's drawn into a secret society as she discovers the underlying terror in the world around her. With tons of intrigue and mystery, the story takes plenty of twists and turns with new horrific details added around every curve. The storyline is absolutely original and is actually somewhat realistic and believable. The characters are incredibly complex and the emotions are so palpable that I truly felt like I was inside Marci's head with her! With tons of action, this fast-paced book just grips you and never lets you go with not a single dull moment. I really, really enjoyed this book and I'm left thinking about it for days after finishing it! I love how the ending wasn't a cliffhanger but definitely leaves it open for continuation. I can't wait to see what the next book may bring!
