Though Cate was newly pregnant when she hitchhiked into Indian Lake, she was befriended by Captain Redbeard and his wife, Julie, who own the Marina and the attached Marina Mini Mart.
When they asked her name, she didn’t give her real name, Susan Kramer, she said, “Cate Sullivan.” She had come up with it so naturally, and from that moment Cate began making her new life and for her, changing her name had been an important part.
She made up lies to tell her son, Danny, when he was old enough to start asking questions about his father. But the saving grace for Cate was that she WAS a brave woman. She didn’t shy away from people and live a solitary life. She stuck out her neck a lot. She went to real estate school and borrowed the money from Julie to pay her tuition. Instinct told Cate she’d be good at selling homes, because deep down, the one and only thing she wanted for her son and herself was a safe haven. A house by the pretty and tranquil Indian Lake.
Cate created peace and harmony in her life. She loved her friends and did a lot for them. Because they loved her back, when Trent asked her to risk her life for his plot to bring her ex-husband to justice, it was her love of her friends and her town that motivated her to accept the challenge.
Cate is one of those standup people who lives her life to the fullest, even when she’s keeping secrets---including wearing a disguise.
It is not until she finally tells Trent the truth about her past and her life with Brad, that she discards her brown contacts and goes back to being the natural blonde that she is. Then she lives a genuine life.
Cate’s last secret is that she is terrified of falling in love with Trent. She has to be courageous to let him into her heart and it’s the most difficult challenge of her life.
