Black Magic Academy
by Emily Martha Sorensen
Genre: YA Fantasy

Picture
Mildred doesn't like black magic. But her mother was once valedictorian of Black Magic Academy, so her aunts insist she needs to follow in her footsteps and become one too.
Mildred doesn't want to be part of the popular crowd. Nor does she care about her "death-enemy." And she certainly has no interest in murderous spells. But if the teachers catch on that she's actually a good witch . . . well, they don't react well to that kind of ignominy.
What's the only good witch in a school of wicked witches to do?
(This book is 36,000 words long, or 150 pages in length.)

Hi! I'm Emily Martha Sorensen!
I'm a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy, and I write clean books that are intelligent, optimistic, and happy. I write for all age levels. Picture books? Got one. Chapter books? Got a series. Middle grade? Sure thing. Young adult? Most definitely. New adult? Working on a series right now. ALL of them, no matter what the age of the main character, are both intelligent and clean. I believe that children deserve smart books, teenagers deserve fun books, and adults deserve imagination, a sense of wonder, and books aimed at them that are G or PG.
I have two comics: A Magical Roommate, which is complete (it's actually G-rated new adult, and was always intended to be that way: I started it when I was eighteen and couldn't find clean stories about people my age), and To Prevent World Peace, which is currently ongoing (think a magical girl series from the point of view of the villains).
I'm a bit of an oddball. I refuse to write what's popular: I write the stories I believe should exist. If those happen to become popular, I would be delighted. I won't change what I write just because the crowd's doing it. I'm pretty flexible about which forms my stories take, though.
My husband is Benjamin A. Sorensen, who writes fantasy. His first book is Prophecy, and it's pretty awesome. He's a wordsmith, and he usually writes standalone epic fantasy.

Super Cute
Super Cute Volume 1
By Matt Wade

Genre:Fantasy

Picture
Alex Winthrop has just been offered his very own Mystic Realm. The weird thing is, Mystic Realms are supposed to be for girls only. But the guys in the suits have given him an ultimatum--now or never. He chooses now. However, he soon discovers--much to his great surprise--that not only can he travel throughout his own Realm, he can cross over into ALL of them. And so, he sets off on a series of adventures that might change his life forever--if they don't end up trying to kill him first. Because when you're dealing with girls who are reckless enough to jump headfirst into the relative unknown, death is a real possibility. Even when those girls are SUPER CUTE. This first novel by Matt Wade is a coming-of-age, Young Adult Urban Fantasy about an average young man who thrusts himself into extraordinary circumstances. The Realms offer their owners the opportunity to create and do nearly anything they can imagine, but at what cost to themselves? It examines gender perspectives, identity, love, friendship, and the fantasy/reality dichotomy from a quirky, postmodern viewpoint, all while maintaining senses of fun and wonder (even at the darker points). If you're a fan of such titles as Ernest Cline's Ready Player One and Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim series, this book might be right up your alley.

Paige untied the ribbon from her waist and began twirling it rhythmic gymnastics-style. Then she flicked
her wrist, and the strip of fabric shot straight toward me. Hah. This would be easy. When the ribbon
was just inches from my body, I quickly side-stepped it and grabbed it—then cried out in pain. The
weapon had shredded my palms, and my blood sprayed the mat. Sometime while it was in mid-air, Paige
had changed the cloth to metal. I needed to give myself time to heal, so I had no choice but to dodge her
attacks for the time being. Grunting and groaning, I darted back and forth as she repeatedly cracked the
steel ribbon like a whip, trying to strike me with it. As rapidly as I could, I traced hard lines on my palms in order to close the deep wounds. A whip strike shot toward my head, and I ducked just in the nick of time; the metal edge ripped open the top of my cloth head covering. Soon, I had closed all of my wounds.
I was ready to counter-attack. Running in all directions, so I wasn’t an easy target, I threw a flurry of
shuriken at Paige’s body. With another flick of her wrist, she straightened out the ribbon into a long blade and began batting at the throwing stars, deflecting them away from her and towards me. I dodged many of them, but many others hit their marks—arms, legs, stomach. Meanwhile, only a few shuriken had grazed her arms and legs, while none of them hit the rest of her body. It was clear she was athletic when she was younger, but I had no time to ask her about it. I quickly yanked out the shuriken, then fled for the cage walls. Once again, I needed time to heal. As I clung to the cage with one hand and began healing myself with the other, I glanced over my shoulder at Paige.
Calmly, she pulled the bow off her head and shook it with a flick of her wrist. As she did so, a glint of light raced across its surface. Like the ribbon before it, the bow was now a metal weapon. She brought it back over her head, then threw it at me. It cut a wide arc in the air, like a boomerang. I ran toward it, then tucked and rolled in order to escape its path. Unfortunately, it shredded the back of my clothes, and my back began to bleed. Damn, she must have manipulated the air molecules to change its path. And that’s when it hit me. I wasn’t thinking big enough.
I dashed toward the cage wall, then clambered up the side and toward the ceiling. While turning around, I pulled out a kusari-gama from beneath the waist of my pants. A short scythe, it had a long chain attached to it, with a weight at the end. I grabbed tight to the chain and flung the scythe right at Paige. She ran to dodge it, but her attempt was futile. Manipulating the air, I redirected the scythe to follow her wherever she moved. The chain whipped around her body, and the scythe embedded in her stomach.
“Gaaah!” she screamed in pain. “Okay, you wanna play rough, let’s play rough!”
Wincing, Paige ripped the scythe out of her stomach and quickly wiped a hand over the wound to seal it.
A glowing sword materialized in her hand, and she chopped at the chain, easily cutting the links. I tossed
the now-useless weapon away and pulled out a blowgun, then began blowing a flurry of darts at her.
Many of them struck her instantly—arms, legs, boobs. It was a shame to hit those, but I couldn’t go easy
on her. I needed to win this, by any means necessary. Paige grimaced in pain as she dropped her sword,
but made no movements to pull out the darts. Instead, she tightly closed her palms into fists, then
reopened them. They were now filled with what looked to be red marbles with wicks attached. Cherry
bombs. Shit.
I jumped off the cage wall and landed on the mat, a long bo materializing in my hand. Paige
tossed a fistful of bombs right at me, and the fuses immediately lit. Swinging the bo, I deflected many of
bombs right back at her and they exploded loudly near her feet, sending up thin clouds of smoke. Two can play at this game. Unfortunately, many bombs also exploded near or on me, burning through cloth and flesh. I screamed, and tears welled up in my eyes. It was time to finish this, once and for all.
I thrust my palms at Paige and focused with all of my might. As in the freezer of my restaurant those many months ago, a large pillar of flame shot forth. This time, though, I strained even harder, and the flame took the form of a tiger. Paige stood frozen in the middle of the mat, staring in shock and horror as the tiger reared up over head. With one final push, I threw my arms downward, and the flame raced toward her body.
“NOOOO!” Paige screamed as the fire engulfed her. A split second later, a torrent of water doused her
and extinguished the flame. Like she said, this wasn’t a deathmatch.
She lay motionless on the mat, covered in third-degree burns. Her clothes were torn to shreds, and her
hair was singed almost black. Paige would need a lot of time to heal herself, but she would live. I
stumbled over to her, exhausted, and bent over her with my hands on my knees.
Panting heavily, I gasped, “Do … you … surrender?”

Wow! It's been a while since I read a book like this and it caught me completely by surprise! It was way better than I expected! This hidden treasure snagged me from the very beginning and immersed me into  all new worlds of imagination. The writing was exceptionally great as we journey with Alex, the only teen boy to ever get a magic realm. There's no limits to his imagination as he's completely in control of his own realm and can have everything he wants just by thinking about it...except companionship. After discovering that he has the ability to enter other realms, he embarks on a journey through candy coated gluttony, medieval quests, chinese torture chambers, a shopping fetish and island paradises, just to name a few. He finds enemies, friends, love and heartbreak with his encounters of the owners of the realms he passes through.
The worldbuilding is just phenomenal with minute details that made me actually see everything vividly happening in my head. Some of the things he comes up with are just so awesome I wish I could join in!
I don't want to give away too many spoilers, but I just gotta say, the twist at the end when he discovers the purpose behind the magical realms was completely stunning!  This was seriously one of the best books that I've read this year and I can't believe it slipped below the radar! Just think- the Matrix meets Alice In Wonderland and you'll be somewhat close to what this book entails! Absolutely awesome!

I shuddered again, then looked up into Cammie’s concerned face.
“Something wrong?” she asked, sounding disappointed.
“It’s just the way Randa’s nude body looks,” I replied, mildly aghast. I looked over at the pond to see
Hannah walking into the water, wearing a navy-blue one-piece that exposed her back but covered most of her behind. Randa was smiling happily at her, and was already submerged up to her shoulders—thank
God. “It’s just … unsettling.”
“Wanna talk about it?”
I looked back at Cammie and slowly shook my head. “Nah, the shock will eventually wear off. But
looking at her tail again got me to thinking about how weird this place is.”
“The pond?” Cammie asked, confused. “Gozo? Because I don’t think it’s weird at all. I think it’s very
homey, actually.”
“No, Gozo’s fine,” I agreed wholeheartedly. “At least for what it is. I meant the Realms in general.
Panda girls. Dragon ladies. Fairies. C’mon, it’s not normal.”
“Yeah, I supposed you’re right,” Cammie said resignedly, and her face looked mildly sad. “But on the
other hand, we can truly be ourselves here, and the magic lets us do that.”
“Hey, wings and tails are one thing,” I said defensively, “but you and I both know there’s a lot more to it
than that.”
“What do you mean?”
I looked at the leafy branches above my head, then focused my attention on the air around them. Within
seconds, a light breeze began to blow through them, gently rustling them together. It looked perfectly
normal, but it was far from it.
“I mean that,” I said harshly, turning back to her with a fierce gaze. “The magic gives us way too much
power. It’s like … damn, I hate to say it, but it’s like we’re gods.”
“I think you’re exaggerating just a bit,” Cammie said with a chuckle. “I mean, I know we can create life
and destroy it at will, and okay, we can control the weather, but we can’t control the entire universe.”
“Oh no?” I shot back, not caring that I was losing my temper.
I looked up into the sky, which was a brilliant blue. The large sun was high in the horizon, but despite its
size and apparent closeness, it didn’t cast much warmth. That’s because it was mostly for show. And I
was about to prove that. Staring hard at the “celestial” body, I willed it to shrink. And as I began to
sweat from the intense effort, it slowly did. Within minutes, the sun was completely gone, and the sky was pitch black.
“What the hell?!” Randa cried out as she swam in place in the middle of the pond.
“Don’t worry!” I called back to her. “Here, look!”
Gazing back into the dark sky above me, I slowly materialized a field of stars, then a modest-sized moon.
It glowed a brilliant white, and it was close enough that I could see its craters.
I turned back to Cammie with a triumphant grin on my face. “I’d call that controlling the universe,
wouldn’t you? Or at least the solar system.”
But Cammie didn’t answer me, at least not verbally. Her face said it all, though. It was turning a bright
red, and her bespectacled eyes glared at me with fury. Yeah, she was pissed.
“You crossed the line,” she said flatly, then stood up and walked back through the grove of trees.

Yay! I was so excited to travel back to the mystical realms! This sequel follows Shelby, whom Alex befriended in the first book. Completely changed from her time in the mystical realms, she selflessly devotes herself to charity work to give better education to underprivileged girls of the world. You get to really connect with Shelby and get a palpable feel of her emotions in this book. After another of the residents of the realm, a bisexual intersexed girl, Cammie escapes, she has a horrifying tale of one of the mad inhabitants wreaking havoc on the rest of the realms and terrorizing the rest of the girls. They emabark on a rescue journey back to the realms to try to stop her. What follows is a poignant tale of self discovery, love and the consequences of having too much power.
Once again, the worldbuilding was just phenomenal with vivid imagery that left my head spinning. The emotions were palpable and you connect more with the people than you do in the first book. I eagerly raced through the action packed pages to find out what would happen next and was definitely not disappointed with the hair raising finale! Both of these books are just incredibly awesome! I am entirely impressed with Matthew Wade's imagination and writing and I would love to see what else he comes out with!

Hello, treasured readers! My name is Matt Wade. Although my childhood took me to such far-flung places as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Fairbanks, Alaska, I currently make my home in Lafayette, Indiana. I am a proud alumnus of Purdue University, having earned Bachelor's degrees in both Liberal Arts (with a focus on Professional Writing) and Biology (with a focus on Ecology and Evolution). In my spare time, I enjoy many activities, including bowling, going to the movies, reading, watching anime, attending the occasional live concert (sidenote: if you're ever in Los Angeles, be sure to check out Briagha McTavish. She's awesome :) ), and cheering on my beloved Boilermakers.
Ever since I was in junior high school, I have enjoyed writing fiction, and much of it has been of a fantastical nature. My love for science fiction and fantasy has its roots in the films I have watched and the books I have read. Some of these I naturally gravitated to, and some of them I discovered through my father (thanks, Dad!). I recently decided to pursue a career as a novelist, with the goal of publishing books for a long time to come. I hope that you will join me on my journey, and I welcome all feedback and constructive criticism.

When 21-year-old Bridget Littleton decides to borrow her father's yacht and sail off of the tip of Florida toward Bermuda, she discovers that the legends about the Bermuda Triangle are very true.
After seeing a face in the ocean waves, her next memory is of spinning water and blackness. She awakens in the town of Bristol England in the year 1532.
Rumors of her beauty reach the court, and soon Bridget, known as Bridge, finds herself in the court of Henry VIII and Lady in Waiting to none other than Anne Boleyn.
Will she get out alive? Will she accidentally change the course of history, or is she indeed a part of the history she has studied since she was a little girl?

Bridget Littleton raised her face to the darkening sky. Stars sparkled and shone, accentuating the soft feel of the salt-scented air. Leaning against the rail of her father’s luxurious yacht, she gave herself up to the gentle listing of the ship, enjoying the sound of the slap of the waves against the yacht’s steel hull. To her left, a seagull flew – just at eye level, so close that she could hear it pull the wind beneath its snowy wings. Intermittently, the maritime bird would glide and soundlessly ride the air currents, like a silent phantom above the blue-green waves of the sea. Flap, glide, dip and climb, her airborne companion followed the yacht for a short time, then soared off in the quest of an aquatic snack.
She’d brought an opened bottle of red wine to the aft deck of the yacht. There comfortable chairs and couches were placed for the ease of her father’s friends and clients. She still wasn’t sure as to how she was able to convince her father to let her use his yacht, but she was grateful. The Bridget, so named by her late mother, was a large, well-appointed vessel, its primary use being for the entertainment of her father’s business associates. Somehow she persuaded him to lend it.
She preferred this part of the large, luxurious yacht, preferred to see where she had been rather than where she was going. She’d always felt that way, felt the pull of a past she couldn’t quite bring into focus.
Lifting a crystal goblet to her lips, she drank of the Bordeaux she preferred, savoring the taste of black cherry on her tongue. She held the wine there for a few seconds,
savoring the taste, then let it slip down her throat, enjoying the chocolate finish of the wine.
The evening was a little cool, pleasantly so, and there was a slight wind carrying the scent of salt, a briny perfume she found enticing, seducing. She loved the smell of the sea. To her, it was a fragrance that called up phantoms of memories she could not quite grasp.
The wind began to pick up, and as her hair lifted in response to its urging, she shook her head, reveling in the feel of soft hair moving against her neck and shoulders. She delighted in the wind in her hair – enjoyed the pull of it, the slight tug as hair and wind became playmates, dancing around her neck and cheeks, then billowing upward creating a silky parachute of silver and gold. Leaning her head back, she again looked up into the vast dome of sky above her. She loved to be at sea. She felt as if someone were calling to her; the pull of the sea was as strong and as insistent as a lover.
Footsteps caused her to turn from the rail. “Ah, Liam, good evening.” She smiled in greeting as one of her guests approached her – a second bottle of wine in one hand and a shawl in the other.
“I was afraid that you may catch a chill, Bridget. The wind is picking up.”
“Please, call me Bridge. Thank you, Liam. That was kind.” Both turned to the rail and observed the wake of the boat as it made its progress.
“Aren’t we in the Bermuda Triangle?” Liam asked.
“Yes, we are. Not afraid are you?” Bridge teased.
“Nah – not really.” Liam chuckled but finally admitted, “Well, not too nervous anyway.
“Say, this is some yacht your dad has here. Who named it The Bridget?”
“My mother did when I was born.”
“I see. Not bad to have a whole luxury yacht named after you.” They fell silent as both gave in to the beauty of the night and the softness of the breeze. Bridge lifted her glass for another sip and Liam noticed a ring on the middle finger of her left hand as she raised it to her lips. The kiss of the moon’s ethereal rays made the stones dance with light as if it were enchanted.
“Wow, Bridge, beautiful ring.”
“Thank you. It was my mother’s. By tradition, it is given to the eldest daughter of the eldest son. There is some kind of mystery to it. My ancestress through my mother, Bridget Lyttleton, supposedly owned it. That is why I’m named Bridget, by the way. My father’s name is John, and he is also a Littleton, but my parents are something like seventh cousins. Anyway Bridget’s father-in-law was named John, as was her husband, Sir John, actually, and my mother thought it would be nice to honor her, especially since the ring originated with her. So Bridget I am, but of course it got shortened to Bridge.”
“Well, it certainly is a beautiful ring. The gold is exquisite and, those are rubies, right?”
“Yes. Actually, it’s a Tudor Rose.”
For the second time that evening she held up her hand. The moonlight again caressed the stones and they seemed to come alive. Set in heavy gold, the center gem was a perfect four grain (equivalent to a karat) pearl surrounded by five slightly smaller rubies which shimmered in the moonlight. It was stunning, but Bridget measured its value by the previous owner, her mother, who wore it on the same finger until she died of cancer when Bridge was three.
“Tudor Rose?”
“Yes, it’s a rather long story, but basically, a rose bush bloomed with both red and white petals signifying the union of two royal houses. Don’t get me started or I’ll talk for hours about it. My hobby is Tudor history,” she laughed.
“Oh, this may interest you,” Bridge said. Lifting the shawl she now wore and showing him an unusual brooch which was pinned to her gown.
“Hey, that’s an interesting piece of jewelry you have there.”
Bridget glanced down at the pin and smiled.
“Yes. Actually, it has an amusing story behind it.
“Upon hearing that I was intending a cruise which necessitated my basically staying within the Bermuda Triangle, my friend Cynthia became frightened. It is superstitious nonsense, of course, but what can you do?
“So, she went to Tiffany’s and had it made for me as a good luck talisman.”
“What is it? I can’t quite see.”
“It’s a sixteenth-century ship. She knows of my love of Tudor history and this is a replica of one of Henry VIII ships named the Mary Rose, after his favorite sister. Here, dangling from the figurehead is a diamond. Supposedly representing the North Star. Here on the back of the ship, on the quarter-deck, is a woman. I guess that’s supposed to be me.
“These scrolls along the water line are waves and represent that the ship is in a storm, but the woman will be safe because she has the North Star to guide her. She calls it the ‘Storm Tossed Ship’.
“Oh!” Bridge exclaimed as the yacht lurched. The wind, heretofore a gentle breeze, was picking up, and the sea was becoming choppy. The shawl which Liam brought to Bridge rose into the air. She made an attempt to catch it, slipped and almost fell into the sea, the goblet of wine crashing to the deck with a splintering sound of shattering glass as red wine coursed down the planks in blood red streams.
The wind increased and began to howl.
“Bridge!” Liam yelled. Grabbing her arm, he attempted to keep her from sliding over the rail as the yacht tossed and pitched as if it were deliberately trying to throw her overboard. Below her, Liam watched in horror as a whirlpool appeared starboard, and like a tornado, began to draw Bridge into its depths. He held on frantically, his eyes stretched wide as he looked into Bridge’s fear-filled face. Slowly her arm began to slip from his hands until .............

A powerfully moving story that was utterly addictive! From the very first page, I was swept off my feet and carried away by the author's poetic writing. With an all new and fresh look at some of the most prolific characters of the Tudor era, you gain some insight of who Henry VIII might have been before his devastating accident and spiral into madness. Anne Boleyn is often portrayed as a cold and devious individual, yet in this majestic retelling, you get to actually see her as never before as a real person with tender feelings and horrible injustices done against her. Journey back in time with Bridget (Bridge) and witness the birth of Queen Elizabeth and her rise to revolutionize and change the entire world! The writing was very well executed, with beautiful, poetic descriptions that will fully immerse you into the time. The characters were absolutely realistic with palpable emotions and you get to really feel for them, especially Bridge as she battles with her emotions to not meddle with the current events even though she cringes at all the horrific things she knows is coming. This was a poignant tale of hope, loss, love, betrayal and rebirth that left me thinking about it long after I finished the book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and really did not want it to end! I would strongly recommend this book to anybody who enjoys history, adventure, time travel or just a really moving story and can be enjoyed by all ages teen and up!

Knights of Enmity
by Sedrie Danielle
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Picture
Fall into the magic, action and ever spiraling chaos that is the Knights of Enmity!
Never had there been a time when enmity did not exist between Man and Angels. During the time of the Light Wars, the ancient Order of the Grigori blessed 9 sons of Adam with the power to defeat Gabriel's hordes. The 9 founded the first of the 33 Orders of Man who swore to protect Earth from the wrath of Heaven.
Rufus Sosius, leads the degenerative Black Knights of the Order of Magia Chaotica; the most powerful of the 33 Orders of Man. While each Knight has taken a vow to maintain the balance of light and darkness in the world while upholding the will of the Council of 9, they find themselves ensnared in the drama of life as a series of bad decisions and fleshly weaknesses creates enmity between the Orders.
Dante the Seer has a vision of the coming war and warns Rufus Sosius of the Prophet's errored interpretation which lead him to the idea of awakening the sheeple, the common man, to the world of magic. Against the advice of the Council, the Prophet awakens the masses but quickly finds out he was wrong by doing so.
As agitation amongst the Orders rises, Heaven has sounded the horns of the Reckoning as foretold in Revelation. Heaven descends upon the lower realms, it is Lord Samedi and his Barons who meet Heaven's swords with their own.

Chapter 1
The first night

“WILL you accept this nose ring?” Verity repeated it over and over under her breath as she stood on the paving stones of the castle courtyard. Twenty-six dragon shapeshifter suitors would soon arrive. The Earth reality TV videos showed human bachelors and bachelorettes handing out roses to those who would continue on the journey towards finding mates. But roses would confuse the dragon bachelors. In dragon form, they might eat the flowers, thorns and all and then belch fire. However, gold in any form got all the dragons’ attention big time.
Verity’s curves, prized on the Dragon Planet, were on ample display as she stood in her human form. She wore a sparkling ice-blue gown that matched her eyes. Her dress artfully molded to her in front, open nearly down to her waist and cut almost as low clinging to her backside, although her long black hair covered most of the skin revealed in back. Verity didn’t shiver from the cold, despite the thin fabric. Her dragon blood ran hot. Any trembling was completely due to nerves.
“Will you accept this nose ring?” she muttered again. It was a simple enough phase but she just might mess it up.
Torches burned in the courtyard in front of the quaint old castle. It was a historic site, not a working fortress, a confection of towers and spires perched on a remote mountainside. Lights from the village at the foot of the mountain twinkled in the darkness below. Verity would stay here for the next nine weeks.
Modern lighting illuminated the center of the courtyard where Verity would greet each bachelor dragon in turn as he arrived. Cameramen, sound crew and assistant producers circled around the edges of the courtyard. The whole planet was watching. Her every word and move were being recorded.
No pressure.
Tonight, Verity was The Dragonette, a bachelorette shapeshifter on a Journey to Love. She was also the Dragon King’s daughter. She stiffened her spine. She took a deep breath of the pine scented air carried by the breeze up from the forests below.
Each of the bachelor dragons would introduce himself as he arrived. The camera crew roamed around her, waiting for the men to arrive.
The king had summoned Verity to his throne room when he told her she would be the planet’s first Dragonette. King Harrenholtz was a big fan of reality television shows from Earth. The ruler of the Blood Claw Clan that dominated Planet Dragon had decided that a television show would promote mating in a planet with a dwindling shapeshifter population. The king’s closest councilor, his brother Cobravelos was in charge of making it happen.
“We’re gathering together the best of the best young dragons from every corner of the planet, Verity,” the king told her. “All in one place for you to choose from. It’s one-stop-shopping as they say on Earth. You’ll be able to start nesting immediately, and I hope to see those baby dragons soon.”
Verity had no answer to this.
No problem there, the king wasn’t expecting an answer. The king, tall and stately, his dark hair streaked with gray and his blue eyes still compelling even in middle age, was a hopeless romantic—when it suited his purposes.
“You should be the bachelor dragon yourself, brother,” Verity’s Aunt Tryspidania told the king. Gray-haired and flint eyed with a spine of steel, Aunt Tryspi was a genealogy freak who had traced the family trees of all the contestants.
The king didn’t mind a little flattery, but he waved the idea aside. “Your Aunt Tryspi tells me that these men all come from the best bloodlines,” he said. “Also, your uncle, who knows about these things, assures me that these men are all, as he says, ‘smoking hot.’”
Verity’s uncle Cobra was just as tall, blue-eyed and handsome as the king but much more fashionable. He was gay and the king trusted his opinions on which males were hot and which were not.
“We know your unusual interest in conversation and culture and—um, ideas, Verity,” The king’s tone indicated that these pursuits were useless at best, but he was willing to indulge her eccentric tastes.
“So we made sure to include some men who are artistic or...well, I don’t know, clever. These dragons are the best of the best. Your hatchlings will raise the intelligence level of the whole species. So enjoy the journey and find me a son-in-law.”
Like she had a choice.
Her relatives would be shocked to find that Verity had a secret plan. Simple, straightforward Verity, who everyone knew was pathetically bad at the basic dragon skill of planning and executing devious strategies. She didn’t have a detailed plan. More like the ghost of a hope. This dating show had thrown everything into chaos. She needed to stay alert and look for her chance.
She had tried once before to run away from her father’s castle and the fate of being chained to a nest for a life of egg laying like a prize hen. That attempt had ended in disaster. She wouldn’t let herself think about it. Her mind and body had been numb ever since.
The king was convinced that she had learned her lesson and wouldn’t try again. But Verity had grimly determined never to be in any dragon’s power ever again. She trusted no one to help. She wasn’t even sure she could do it. But Verity planned to watch for an opening to escape from her gilded cage before it was too late.

Oh my! This book was so much fun to read! I was completely enraptured from the very first page and found myself quite unable to put this book down! With a completely new concept - bringing reality tv to a dragon shifter world- I've never quite read a book like this! It was so much fun to experience Verity as she unwillingly became the first Dragonette contestant and had to bat away all the vain dragon suitors. When she found true love in a truly unlikely place, it made me jump up and down in glee, especially when he's made to join the tv show as well. I'm a true sucker for shifters and it was a blast to read about all the different challenges the suitors had to go through to try to be the one to put a ring through her nose. I completely, absolutely enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more of the author's works! This was a fun, light-hearted read that I'd completely recommend to everybody, even if you're not a shifter fan!

I was born in Illinois and grew up in transit. My father's work as a scientist working for the military and aerospace industry took us to Texas, Alaska, Washington state, and finally Southern California. I now live in San Francisco with a small group of formerly feral felines, who were all rescued and who daily return the favor.
I have written and directed a play, written dozens of articles for Buddhist publications and contributed humorous short pieces and interviews to both online and print magazines. My favorite, an interview of Darlene Cates, star of "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," is available here.
I started to write books with life-size heroines on the day I threw a book against the wall for having one fat joke too many. Since that turning point, I have published eight books featuring large, in-charge heroines, real life situations and genuine humor with no cruel jokes whatsoever. My mystery series featuring Josephine Fuller, Sleuth of Size who doesn't apologize, won the NAAFA Distinguished Achievement Award.

I am at a Halloween party - my first in years. I wear an early 19th-century style off-white summer dress, a matching hat and high-heeled suede shoes with buttons on the front. The party is inside of a house near Lincoln and Seventh streets in downtown Bloomington. It is so full of costumed IU students that it is terribly hot. Given my dress is meant for summer, I try to tolerate it, but can't. I go looking for my friend to tell her I am going to leave. After several minutes of searching, I start to feel faint and leave without seeing her. As I head down the front stairs of the house, I hear one of the front doors open. I turn to see a young man in jeans and plaid shirts, not a costume, come out.
I turn back and continue down the stairs when suddenly I am bumped into and my feet lose traction on the stairs. My feet slide back and my body tips backward until my heels are completely off the step. I bend my legs at the knees as I attempt to twist to my right to grab the metal railing, instead my fingertips brush it. I feel a sharp pain in my ribs as they hit the edge of a step. Then the side of my head hits the concrete knocking me out. I do not come to for several moments. When I do, I feel my body sliding down the steps and every part of me being bumped all the way down. I keep blacking out and coming to all the while helpless to stop the fall. The whole thing feels like it is taking forever. I wish I could cry out to the man who caused the fall to stop this, but each hit on the steps keeps me from doing so. Finally it stops and the last thing I hear before I black out for a final time is the man apologizing profusely, and telling me not to worry, an ambulance is on the way.

I grew up in Fanwood, New Jersey. In 2002, I moved to Bloomington, Indiana. I split my time as a co-owner in my family's internet business and as a local insurance agent. Though I do enjoy my work and want to continue with it, I have always dreaming of being a writer. My first book Switching Stations, Switching Stories came out in 2013 and last year on June 15, 2014 my second book - a time travel story, Between Two Worlds came out. Currently I am developing a short story series for this site on life in space and my third book with a magic slant.

The night of my eighteenth birthday, I also began sleep walking yet again. This time, I couldn’t find a way to joke about it or even rationalize it. Who sleep walks to their own mother’s grave? Mama’s grave was decorated, which was strange unless dad traveled all the way back here. I wasn’t even sure how I walked all the way here in pajamas in the middle of the night. My stomach turned and I ran from my mother’s grave and lost the small piece of birthday cake I had consumed. Violets, all over Mama’s grave. Why not, jasmine, I wondered. They were her favorite. Why did they have to be the flower I saw in my vision? I heard a ringing noise and it roused me from my queries; it was my cell phone. Had I jammed it in my pocket before I left?
“Rubes,” I said, not even looking at the caller ID.
“I am so glad you answered! What the hell happened?” she demanded.
I felt dazed and my stomach began to turn again.
“What?” I asked slowly, my voice sounding tight and far away.
“Where are you?”
I closed my eyes and I let the crystal tears fall. Dad said Mama began to act unusual around her eighteenth birthday and he had joked that I would adhere to the family curse. He couldn’t be more right. I was a crazy person too.
“I’m at my mother’s grave,” I squeaked.
“How did you make it all the way there?!” she demanded fearfully.
“I don’t know! I just….”I sobbed.
Twigs and branches cracked behind me and I felt another wave of nausea wash over me. I smelled a foul odor and I saw the trees wiggling as if something or someone was advancing.
“There’s somebody here…” I whispered.
“I’m coming! Don’t worry. I’m running out the door right now, okay? Just hang tight, love.” I could hear a thrashing around and I knew Ruby was grabbing her purse and keys and fumbling out the door.
I heard a low growl, then I saw a pair of yellow eyes, and the pungent odor became stronger, nauseatingly so. “Ruby, hurry!”
I backed up towards my mother’s grave, accidentally crushing the violets beneath my bare, bloody feet. What had I done? Had I crawled here? My hands and feet were gashed open and gushing blood. I was covered in mud and leaves, head to toe. I began to cry harder from confusion and fear. What kind of person sleep walks miles in the middle of the night and awakens to find themselves bloody and dirty in front of their own mother’s grave? I waited for Ruby as I watched the yellow eyes watching me. Seconds passed by with my heart thumping so loudly I felt it was audible as it resounded in my own ears.
“Ruby! Hurry!”
“I’m driving like ninety sweetie, just relax!!”
“I’m serious, there’s something here and it’s watching me-“
The next sentence died in my throat before I could even utter it. The yellow eyes shifted and were somehow much higher in the trees, as if whatever was watching me was initially crouched down and was now fully standing up. The sound of tires squealing alerted me to Ruby’s Ford Ranger pulling up.
“How did you get here so quickly?” I mumbled.
“Zias!” she screamed into the forest as she jumped out of the truck. I looked at her, eyes wide. She stomped forward angrily. “Zias! Dammit! You’re scaring her half to death! Get out here now!”
Ruby then whirled around to face me.
“Happy 18th, sweets! You’re now worthy of some to die for secrets....”

Through Golden Eyes:
The Occuli 1.5, Zias' Story

Picture
A Golden-eyed, or an "Aureus", has one sole purpose in life: to protect. Raised from children to be bodyguards, these Occuli are both the fastest and strongest and are commonly used as fierce weapons.
Frequently they are not what they seem however, as they can be tempted by too much power and control over those they protect. This can lead them down a dark and dangerous path.
This supplement to Book One of the Occuli series, gives the reader a more intimate look at the character of Zias. In this story the reader is taken through Zias' personal journal, giving his perspective on the journey so far with Remy and the other Occuli. He tells the story through his eyes about his struggle to remember his past and break from traditions and curses, while putting it all on the line for the love of his life, Remy Verbetta.

Writing and reading are my passions! My dream to be a writer began when, as a five year old child, I would ask my mother to write down the stories I would make up about talking dogs.
Since growing up and becoming further educated with a Bachelor's Degree in English (I have an affinity for classic literature), a degree in Ultrasound and soon to be, a Master's Degree in Leadership, I have begun to pursue that dream in hopes of one day making it my career. I have many interests and ideas so my ultimate goal is to release works of fiction in multiple genres. Fantasy will always be my first love however as I have always had an intense imagination that threatens to inundate me if not expelled onto paper.
Aside from writing, I enjoy physical activities like running and yoga. I am blessed to have an amazing family, close friends and two beloved canine companions.
More information on the Occuli book series is available on my series website at www.theocculi.com. I also have an author website at: www.info49133.wix.com/christiemstenzel or you can follow me on Twitter at @CStenzelWriter or on my Facebook Fan Page at Christie Stenzel: Author.
