A Cat Lady Mystery

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Here, killer, killer, killer . . .

For the first time in sixteen years, Lara Caphart has returned to her hometown of Whisker Jog, New Hampshire. She wants to reconnect with her estranged Aunt Fran, who’s having some difficulty looking after herself—and her eleven cats. Taking care of a clowder of kitties is easy, but keeping Fran from being harassed by local bully Theo Barnes is hard. The wealthy builder has his sights set on Fran’s property, and is determined to make her an offer she doesn’t dare refuse.

Then Lara spots a blue-eyed ragdoll cat that she swears is the reincarnation of her beloved Blue, her childhood pet. Pursuing the feline to the edge of Fran’s yard, she stumbles upon the body of Theo Barnes, clearly a victim of foul play. To get her and Fran off the suspect list, Lara finds herself following the cat’s clues in search of a killer. Is Blue’s ghost really trying to help her solve a murder, or has Lara inhaled too much catnip?

A thread of unease wound through Lara. She wasn’t sure why, but she couldn’t help thinking that the driver of the black car had been watching her before he took off. Unfortunately, through the car’s tinted windows, Lara hadn’t been able to get a glimpse of his face.

Armed with a degree in Criminal Justice, Linda Reilly once contemplated a career in law enforcement. But life took a twist, and instead she found her niche in real estate closings and title examinations, where the dusty tomes in the Registry of Deeds enticed her into solving mysteries of a different sort. A dyed-in-the-wool New Englander, Linda lives in New Hampshire with her husband, who affectionately calls her "Nose-in-a-Book." A member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America, she loves solving mysteries of the cozy type. When she's not pounding away at her keyboard, she can usually be found prowling the shelves of a local bookstore or library.

Congrats on your new series. Looks like a terrific read and am really looking forward to reading it. Appreciate the giveaway. Too bad the book isn't part of the deal. But. I always need totes. I carry a couple of books everywhere I go so I can sort of keep up. I used to read one every 3 days. But a little over 3 years ago I took on a job for a friend in need. Took me a whole month to read "Frying Shame" which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you ever need cat anecdotes for your stories I have quite a few. Such as this one: I delivered a rescue to an older lady. Few months after I delivered the cat she called. Laughing, barely able to get the words out she related. Her adult daughter who lived on the floor below her had just gotten off work. Mentioned her back was really bothering her so Alice told her to take off her blouse and bra and she would give her a massage. As she was doing so she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. Turning. She saw that Navarre had climbed into the cup of the bra that her daughter had hung on the door nob. Navarre was swinging back and forth on that door knob. She thanked my profusely for bringing a loving cuddler and such a source of amusement.

Della, that is an absolutely delightful anecdote! Proves that cats will climb into anything...whether or not they fit. Little Navarre found himself a cozy little cup to curl up in! Thanks for visiting, and good luck in the giveaway! I also have frequent giveaways on my Facebook page to try to keep things interesting. Stay safe and warm this winter ~

I really like that you are into cats, rescue and your writing. Animals are such an important part of our lives. It is a pity so few really understand that. And even fewer understand the need for learning an animals needs. They treat their pets like fluffy little children. That is one of the reasons for so many dog attacks and bites. And cats. Their emotions, thinking, boundaries are different than ours. Few acknowledge that. Even so. Our pets love us and will protect us. I have had more 'protection' from my cats than my dogs. I had one cat that noticed I was afraid of spiders. So when I was caught in the bathroom and a spider came out from behind the litter box. I said a soft "Oh. No." and tried to hurry up. My tuxedo noticed and she looked at the spider. Looked at me. Looked at the spider. Looked at me. Looked at the spider again. And then stepped between me and the spider. When the spider got a little bit closer to where I was sitting she reached out her paw and mashed it. She was an abused and slightly feral kitten when I rescued her. Took two days to catch her. It took about 4 months to earn her trust. After that she was my shadow. Never left my side. She ate, drank when I drank. Toileted when I did. Much to my daughter's regret. Because she wanted her. But Chelsea never would have anything to do with anyone else. And when I took her to the vet? She was always tooth and nail. Would growl from the moment we entered the doors. I went to different ones. But she knew and she let them all know she didn't think much of them.

Della, I can see that you're a true animal lover, and that you really get what animals are all about. Many people in my family, even those close to me, still don't get it. I love your story about your Chelsea. What a sweet little angel she is. I'm glad that you have each other. Give her a hug for me.
