Don’t Overthink Everything
Don’t spend too much time analyzing or rehashing things in your head.
Overthinking can rob you of the present and create undue stress and anxiety you don’t need. If you find yourself mentally besieged by something stressing you out, go for a walk to help clear your mind.

It’s Okay to Fail
The average young adult goes through five or six career changes before age thirty. It’s okay if something you’ve dreamt about falls through. Perhaps you were meant to walk a different path. It doesn’t mean you’re any less unique or special. It means you’re growing and about to embark on a different journey than you fantasized about as a teen. And that’s okay. It’s a normal part of life experience.
Failure is a good teacher and a powerful motivator. James Cameron started as a truck driver, and Harrison Ford was a blue-collar carpenter. J. K. Rowling was a teacher and single mom on welfare. Adam Driver got turned down when he first auditioned for the Juilliard School; he joined the Marines, and two years later, when he reauditioned for Juilliard, he got in.

Learn from Your Mistakes
Inevitably, everyone messes up. Despite how together or entitled people might act, nobody knows what they’re doing when they first launch into adulthood. Everyone starts as a fish swimming in the same ocean against the same current. As the Alanis Morissette song goes, “No one’s really got it figured out just yet.” Making mistakes is essential to learning and growing, and it’s how we evolve.

Thanks, everyone. You know, what's so fascinating and frustrating and great about life is that we all come from different walks and beats of life. Some may have a hugely supportive support system, while others struggle. That's one of the reasons I wrote this, because everyone could use advice at some point as they come into young adulthood. I'm so grateful it has been helping people. It's been so gratifying and humbling to read the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads and realize that this book is having the positive effect on others that I had hoped it would have. Thank you for all of your comments. I appreciate your interest in this book, and I hope you'll check it out.

This sounds wonderful and relatable! For the author; what was the most difficult part of writing this book?

Reply
Haley Cavanagh link
3/26/2024 08:24:41 am

Hi Susie, thank you for your comment and question! You know, the hardest thing about writing this book was just finding the time! As parents, we have so many things to do and so many places to be and on top of our jobs, getting the kids to and from school, cleaning the house, and basically being everybody's manager, it's so hard to find the time to sit down and write. I remember dictating some of this book in my car while picking up the kids from school in the carpool lane, jotting down notes here and there, and basically just doing things while on the go until I could carve out time to write. It's been a process, but I believe the end product is so worth it. It's a very helpful book that I believe will give a lot of people sound advice in a fun and relatable way, and there's always something anyone reading it can glean from it whether it's hacks for cleaning, how to pay bills or save money on your utilities, to simple travel advice and checklists that might come in handy. This book isn't my first book, I've actually written 13 under this name and a pen name, but I will say that this is the book that I'm the most passionate about because it's the book that I would have wanted to have as a young adults, and I'm super excited about its potential to help other people.
Thanks again for your comment. I hope you have a great day. 💜👍

It's amazing how something as simple as knowing how to save on monthly bills or cut costs when dining out can help when you're starting out as an adult. I've had lots of people come to me and say, "I got this for my son/niece for Easter" or "I'm going to get this for my granddaughter as a graduation gift." I am thankful to have been able to work with Cedar Fort Publishing to get this book into the hands of those who need it! I hope you enjoy the book.

4/3/2024 06:05:06 am

Hi Helena,

You're right adulting can be hard, but with the right choices and the tips and tools this book offers, it can be a bit easier and fun! What I enjoyed most about making this book was working with Cesar Fort Publishing! They are hands down the best publisher I have ever worked with and I would do it a hundred times again. They are great people who are kind, funny, and know what they're doing. Creative wise, this book took much longer than any of my others to create because it was important to me to get it all right. So it was a project that started way back in 2007 on a Post It note! One thing to glean from all of this is that nothing you do creatively is EVER wasted! 💜
Thanks so much for your question.

Hi Nancy, Betty, and Sand,

Thank you! I love the cover too. The book reads like advice from a close friend or mom, which is what I was gonig for while writing it, so it's warm and inviting and readable. I hope you all enjoy it!

All the very best,

Haley Cavanagh
