​A low and deep growl emanated from the back of his throat. Before she could even blink, his hand was at her neck, and he was slamming her against the opposite wall. He had moved so fast that she hadn’t even realized they had crossed the room. The force of the impact stole her breath, as did his close proximity. His chest pressed against hers while his eyes darkened, the pupils blown wide to consume his entire iris. Fangs appeared in his mouth when he spoke. “Trust me, sweetheart. She stepped around him, heading back to her nightstand and grabbing the picture, dropping her knife in its place. She wasn’t going to need it anymore. She’d made her point.
