He has led or been part of archaeological expeditions to Mexico and Honduras, making discoveries that have been reported in National Geographic Magazine.

Hep's related interest in space, and space exploration and "things unknown" was fueled by his father who worked for NASA.
While living in New Mexico, he began to question the many strange and unexplained things he saw in the night sky in the mid 60's, and also developed an interest in lost treasure that has stayed with him his whole life.

The combination of these diverse interests led to the genesis of the Risky Business Chronicles, Book One, his first novel of a three-part series.

How long did it take you to write your book?

Bernie, The full story has been in my head for a number of years, (like 17 or more). I started writing and realized the story had become so large it would have to be multiple volumes. Hence the genesis of the Sunken Treasure Lost Worlds trilogy. This final volume took a little over a year to complete as did book 2, Revelations. Book 1 took the longest, about three years.

As a History buff, I've often thought that fables and old tales often have an element of truth- is that what you weave into your stories?

Reply
Hep Aldridge link
5/28/2021 11:48:39 am

Absolutely! I love weaving myth, legend, history, and archaeology into my stories. I agree with you, I believe that all legends, myths and old tales start with a grain of truth. Or sometimes much more, truth is stranger than fiction. This trilogy is a journey down that path. Enjoy.

Reply

5/30/2021 10:23:19 am

Amy, great and timely question. There is no short answer for me, I'm afraid. I hit 2 major roadblocks in this last book. First one took a couple of weeks to work through in my head, but the second one was over a month long. Very frustrating since I was 2/3 of the way through the story. I turned to a friend and discussed the situation numerous times. Her encouragements, support and insights helped realize what was going on and re-assess the direction I was going with the story. Threw on the brakes, delated the last 3 pages I had written and jumped back in. I will say that each night before I fall asleep I either review in my head what I have written and where I am going with it next or think about my problem and come up with a workable solution. Like I said no short answer. But outside advice from someone who knows the story and quiet time contemplation has worked for me.

Shelly, thanks for your interest. Most harrowing/dangerous adventure was the expedition I took to Mexico during the Zapotista uprising. My team and I drove my old 76 Ford van down to the Rio Candeleria in Campeche, Mexico (had tons of dive gear). We were diving a river site known as El Tigre on the Candeleria. Driving after dark in Mexico at that time was very dangerous and we were warned by local police at border not to do it. We were on a deadline to meet the underwater archaeologists provided by Mexican govt. so we had to disregard their warning and press on. On this trip we were stopped a dozen times by, police, military, Mexican DEA and at one point had to run a barricade put up by masked bandits with guns, The bandanas pulled up over their faces, like bandits in the old west. We blew through their make-shift roadblock and they started shooting at us, luckily they missed. The final piece was after diving the river site for 4 days we were asked by one of the locals how many Crocodile's we had seen! Turns out river was infested with them, and hunted regularly by the locals. Lucky for us we had no encounters but really maded for dicey diving the next 2 weeks! Discoveries reported in National Geographic were made on this expedition.
