Her Forever Love Horses Heal Hearts Book 4
by Kimberly Beckett Genre: Contemporary Romance
Liz Randall is coming home a champion.
Fifteen years after leaving Columbus to follow her dream of riding dressage for the United States Equestrian Team, Liz has returned with a gold medal, a determination to raise her teenage daughter, and a dream to expand her therapeutic riding practice.
Falling in love again isn't in her plan, especially not with Jason Merrick, her first love, the boy whose heart she broke all those years ago. The man with whom she shares more than just a history.
Jason Merrick came home a hero.
An Army Ranger seriously wounded in the same attack that killed his best friend, Jason sought the familiar comfort of his hometown to recover. Now he's ready to build something rather than destroy. What he wasn't ready for was seeing Liz Randall--the girl who broke his heart fifteen years ago. His growing construction company needs the money remodeling Liz's stables will bring. That's the only reason to take the job...or so he tells himself.
The moment they see each other again, feelings that never died come rushing back. Jason knows he'll do anything to have her. But as much as Liz wants to be his, she has a secret. A secret that, once revealed, could make him walk away from her forever.
Liz felt him squeeze her hand, then allowed him to pull her into his warm embrace. “This is what makes me feel alive, Lizzie. This connection between us that has never gone away. Do you feel it too?”
Liz sighed and leaned into his body, relaxing for the first time in days, just allowing him to hold her and offer her the protection of his arms. She couldn’t bring herself to lie to him. Not now. “Yes, I feel it. I don’t know what to do, Jason. It’s been such a long time, and so much has happened.”
He pulled away from the embrace and cupped her cheek in his hand. “Let’s start with this,” he smiled, then lowered his lips to hers in a kiss that started tentatively, then when Liz didn’t resist, become gradually more urgent. Feeling like she was finally home after an eternity of separation, Liz opened herself completely to him, and in that moment, passion overcame them both, and the heat of their mutual attraction burned between them. Jason’s hand cupped Liz’s breast in his hand and slowly dragged his thumb across her hardened nipple, causing her to shudder with the sensation.
A horse in the nearby stable neighed loudly, and the spell was temporarily broken. Jason chuckled, “I think we’d better stop right now, or I’ll have to drag you up to the hayloft.” He looked down and Liz noticed right away that his jeans had tented with a serious erection.
Lionel's Leap of Faith
Horses Heal Hearts Book 3
He doesn't know the mob has him in its cross hairs
Lionel Hayes is shocked to discover a world-class jumper among the abused horses he rehabilitates. Unfortunately, the only man with the talent to ride that horse is not only the man of Lionel's dreams, he has also been recruited by the mob to frame him.
One fateful decision in a moment of weakness destroyed Lionel Hayes' life as he knew it and led to the death of his longtime partner and lover. At first, he blamed his friend Michael Stafford for his misfortune and sought revenge, but through his work rehabilitating abused horse, and the trust of one special horse, he realized that he had to take responsibility for his actions, and that he and he alone should take the blame. From that day forward, Lionel vowed to restore his image and resume the career that he loved. In the process, he found the horse of a lifetime, Gideon's Rainbow.
Monty Campbell was a rising star on the international show jumping circuit until he lost his horse to injury. Desperate for a replacement mount, and with the support of the British Equestrian Team, he leaned of Gideon's Rainbow and knew this horse was for him. To his surprise, the horse's owner was also a perfect match for him, although the man stubbornly refused to acknowledge it. How could Monty convince Lionel they were meant for each other and would the sinister force that sought to destroy Lionel destroy Monty as well?
After his best friend died in his arms in Afghanistan, Ian Stafford felt broken. Then he's compelled to save a beautiful, compassionate woman from rape at the hands of ruthless thugs, and he realizes his unique skills are needed to ensure her family's phenomenal horse gets the chance to race like the champion he is.
Ian Stafford is a former British Special Forces soldier and Afghanistan war veteran who still has nightmares after watching his best friend cut down by a sniper in a remote village in Afghanistan. When he sees a woman in a local pub being harassed and threatened, he intervenes. During the ensuing brawl, the woman escapes, but Ian accidentally stabs one of his attackers who later dies. Ian is charged with manslaughter, and the woman who can exonerate him has disappeared.
Megan Brady and her father Daniel never imagined that the thoroughbred colt they raised from birth would grow up to be a contender for the British Triple Crown. Seabiscuit II is the last horse you might imagine as a champion if judged by looks alone. Like his namesake, Seabiscuit II is not much to look at, but has a heart as big as all outdoors, and refuses to be beaten. Unfortunately, the Irish mob has also taken notice, and has approached Megan's brother Stephen with an offer of a bribe to purposely lose the most important race of his career. Stephen refused, and Megan has taken it upon herself to thwart the mob, but their brutal tactics nearly see her raped until Ian steps in to save her. Megan knows she must come out of hiding to exonerate Ian, but knows if she does, the mob will be there too. Meanwhile the date of the big race approaches.
Can Megan's example of courage in the face of overwhelming odds, and the will to prevail even when the going looks tough, help Ian come to grips with his grief, and give him the courage to forgive himself and allow himself to live and love again? Will Ian be able to trust Megan with his heart?
A once in a lifetime horse, but only one of them can have him.
For very different reasons, Michael Stafford and Jessica Warren need the right horse to fulfill their dreams to compete in international dressage, and the black stallion Tempest is that horse. When Tempest's owner requires them to compete head to head for Tempest, theydiscover the tension between them is not just about the horse, but about the strong attraction neither of them can deny.
Ever since she can remember, Kimberly Beckett has loved horses. She wore out 4 rocking horses before she was 5 years old, and as she got older, she read every horse story in print, from Black Beauty to My Friend Flicka. It wasn't until she got her first job as an attorney for the federal government, however, that could afford to buy her first horse, and she hasn't been without at least one ever since. She has been riding dressage for several years and has earned her United States Dressage Federation Bronze Medal. When she wasn't reading about horses, she was reading romance novels, and her favorites always involve an alpha male Hero riding a magnificent horse. Kimberly has now found a way to combine her love of horses with her love of romance by writing her own version of equine-facilitated happily ever afters. She truly believes that Horses Heal Hearts. She lives in southwest Ohio, and loves practicing dressage with her own beloved equine.
Can you, for those who don't know you already, tell something about yourself and how you became an author?
I have always loved reading romance novels, especially when my life was stressful, and I needed an escape for just a little while. I work full time as an attorney for the U.S. government, and my hobby is horseback riding – dressage specifically, but I have always felt like I had some stories in my mind that were just waiting to come out. After my parents passed away eleven days apart in 2012, I escaped into romance, and the kernel of desire to write my own stories started to grow. I knew nothing about writing a novel, or about the world of publishing, however, so I was a bit stuck. In 2016, I took Grace Burrowes’ writers’ retreat to Scotland and the experience was just the shot in the arm I needed to finish my first book, Dressage Dreaming, which is now published by Soul Mate Publishing. The rest is history.
What is something unique/quirky about you?
I’m the only person I know who is a full time attorney, published author, and has a US Dressage Federation Bronze Medal.
Where were you born/grew up at?
I was born and raised in southwest Ohio
If you knew you would die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day?
I would ride my horse on the beach and spend the rest of the day with my son.
Who is your hero and why?
Ruth Bader Ginsberg is my hero. Despite the tremendous odds against her, she fought tirelessly for women’s equality and held her own as a jurist and a wife and mother, culminating in her nomination and position on the U.S. Supreme Court.
What are you passionate about these days?
I am definitely passionate about politics right now. I urge everyone to exercise their right to vote.
What do you do to unwind and relax?
I ride my horse, and spend as much time outside in nature. I especially like walking in the woods.
Describe yourself in 5 words or less!
Intelligent, empathic, introvert, leader, passionate.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I got my first book contract with Soul Mate.
Do you have a favorite movie?
It sounds sappy, but I love The Sound of Music.
Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie?
Any of my novels would make a great movie, IMHO.
As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
I’m an Aries, so I would choose the Ram, although a horse would be close second.
What can we expect from you in the future?
I have one more book left to write in the Horses Heal Hearts series. I have started working on Hailey’s story and am hoping for June 2021 release.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Her Forever Love?
Yes. My heroine, Liz Randall, has just won the Olympic gold medal for dressage and is returning home to Columbus, Ohio to take over the running of her therapeutic riding facility and help the United States Equestrian Team find its next Olympic dressage hopeful. She is divorced and has a 14 year old daughter, Amy, who has Cerebral Palsy, and Liz’s older sister Cindy has been taking care of Amy and running the business in Liz’s absence.
My hero, Jason Merrick, is a former Army Ranger returning to Columbus after being wounded in Afghanistan in an attack that killed his best friend. Jason is currently living with his sister, who married the friend, and is helping her raise his 7 year old nephew. He and Liz were boyfriend and girlfriend during high school, but broke up when she refused his proposal of marriage the day after graduation. Although he was angry when Liz turned him down, he now realizes fifteen years later that he was selfish and pig-headed and has never forgotten her.
Tell us about your main characters- what makes them tick?
Liz has spent most of her life trying to please others. It’s only when she’s riding that she is truly herself. She cares deeply about her daughter and wants to make sure she knows she is loved unconditionally. She still loves Jason but dreads telling him that her daughter is his.
Jason was hurt deeply when Liz turned down his marriage proposal the day after high school graduation, but he has never forgotten her. As a man, he realizes what a mistake he made in letting Liz go fifteen years ago and is hoping that he can convince her she can trust him with her heart.
Who designed your book covers?
Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
I learned a great deal about therapeutic riding – especially about the many different conditions and disabilities that equine therapy can help.
Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
I think anyone who wants to believe that true love can survive conflict and a lengthy separation will enjoy this book. Also, if you like experiencing the suspense as Liz tries to figure out how best to tell Jason that Amy is his daughter and then watching as her worst nightmare comes true when Jason finds out in the worst possible way, you’ll love reading Her Forever Love.
What are your top 10 favorite books/authors?
I love reading both historical and contemporary romance, so my favorite authors have a mix of both: Lisa Kleypas, Grace Burrowes, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Julia Quinn, Marsha Canham, Marie Force, Courtney Milan, Loretta Chase, Sherry Thomas, and Mary Balogh.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing romance since 2016.
Do the characters all come to you at the same time or do some of them come to you as you write?
My main characters are always created before I begin to really write, but the supporting cast of characters frequently changes as I write.
Do you see writing as a career?
As I approach retirement, I’m hoping that writing will provide enough additional income to allow me to live comfortably and afford my perpetual horse addiction – lol.
Do you prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?
I have to have relative quiet when I write. I like to hear the conversations between characters in my head as I write, and outside noise makes that very difficult.
Do you write one book at a time or do you have several going at a time?
I’m a linear person, so I have to write one book at a time.
Advice you would give new authors?
I would advise new authors not to give up, and to learn as much about the craft of writing as possible. There are several good writing craft books and workshops available. Take advantage.
Describe your writing style.
I’m a plotter when it comes to my overall story arc. My characters can be more like pantsing.
