"If you like sexy fantasy, and I do, this is one great read." -Piers Anthony, author of the Xanth series

When Mike Radley inherited a mysterious old house from a long-lost relative, he wasn't sure what to expect.

He didn't expect a sexual encounter with the nymph in his bathtub.
He really didn't expect to discover a house full of affectionate monsters.
And he definitely didn't expect a pair of witches bent on stealing the home's magic from him.

Welcome to the Radley House. Expect the unexpected.

Mike opened his eyes. He was in the tub, the rag over his face. Pulling it off, he sat up, splashing water over the side.

“What the fuck?” He looked around the room, but saw no sign of the mysterious woman. The bath water was still warm. Had he fallen asleep?

He stood slowly, staring down into the tub with a mixture of relief and regret. It had to have been a dream, he thought, staring at his reflection in the mirror. A hot fucking dream.

Sighing, he stepped out of the bath onto the plush bathmat. A mystery woman who had ridden him senseless. He let out a laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. He never had sex dreams, and couldn’t remember the last wet dream he’d had. Looking back in the bath, he expected to see a giant glob of semen floating somewhere in the water.

That was strange. He swirled the water. He could have sworn he had come. A dream couldn’t fake that sensation… could it? He gave his dick a light stroke, and sure enough, it rose to the occasion.

“Just a dream,” he muttered, crawling back into the bath. It was still plenty warm, and there was no way he could get so hard again after coming twice. May as well take advantage, he figured, sitting down in the tub. He gave himself a few light strokes, pulling on the base of his balls, picturing the girl from his dreams.

The water rippled with his movements, and suddenly she was there, as if stepping through a mirror. Mouth agape, he stared as she stood up before him, the water dripping down from her full breasts. Her hair was a deep blue, far richer than the color it had been before. Thin horizontal lines that looked like tattoos were etched down her ribs, and the lips of her vagina were thick and long, dribbling a fluid of their own.

“Again?” she asked, kneeling in the water. “Let me help you.” She licked her lips, taking hold of his dick at the base.

“Who the fuck are you?” Mike cried, pulling away. She stared at him patiently as he tried to climb out of the bath. Tendrils of water circled his legs, pulling him back in so that the two of them were face to face.

“My name is Naia,” she cooed, touching his lips with her finger. “And you just saved my life.”

If you knew you'd die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day?

I would get up early, because I would like to see the sun rise one last time. I would be miserable, the light would burn my eyes, but I would watch until the sun no longer kissed the horizon (Knowing my luck, it would be cloudy, but whatever).

I would spend the day with my immediate family. We would make a special trip, maybe to a zoo or a museum. I would try to give a thousand percent to leave them with some lasting memories of me.

Dinner would be ridiculous. Everyone would get their favorite dish, and if the weather is nice, we will eat outside. We will play games and I will ignore the dishes piled up in the sink. Someone else can do them.

As the evening winds to a close, I will crawl into bed and wait until the house is asleep. Then I will sneak away and drive to the middle of nowhere where I can properly see the night sky and drop a pair of letters in the mail on the way there. I will call a couple of my closest friends and tell them how much they mean to me, and that I love them.

Once in the middle of nowhere, I will send a couple of texts to a phone number I haven’t used in ages. I will drink the wine that I brought with me while gazing at the stars above. I will cry at how beautiful they are, and mourn that my time is near. I will be drunk and exhausted, and with any luck, Death will come looking for me after I have sobbed myself to sleep.

As for what happens next? Well…that’s something we will all find out for ourselves, someday. But you may now be asking yourself “What about those letters and texts?”

One of those letters is to my spouse, explaining everything and telling them how much they have meant to me. It will be beautiful, there will be tears, and I will leave passwords so they can log into my accounts and properly close them down.

The other letter is an ominous tale about someone who was once in my life who screwed me over hard. The story itself isn’t important, but the result was that they (in a literal sense) tried to take everything from me. I will tell a weird story about being contacted by them about making amends and that I find it strange that they want to meet me in the middle of nowhere and I am sending the letter as a precaution.

Those texts? The first one says “I know you said not to text or call you, but I can’t seem to find you out here.” The second text says “Nevermind, I see you, who’s your friend?”

Is it vindictive? Very. Petty, even? Perhaps. Deserved? Very much so. But when they find my corpse in the middle of the woods by tracing my cell signal, the police will (at the very least) make this person’s life incredibly uncomfortable for a bit, and that is why they will me with a very large smile on my face next to an empty box of wine.

How to find time to write as a parent?
This is one I don’t talk about often because I am very private about my family life. However, I think it’s an important conversation for authors to have, especially for those who have had to work around it like I have.

It’s hard. At one point while I was writing my second book, I was working sixty hours a week and coming home to spend time with my family. My offspring have no idea what I do in my spare time, and I definitely don’t need word of it being spread by my local mom’s group (It’s so hard to find a good parent group, by the way).

During those months, I was only writing around 10k a month by sheer, dogged determination. I was using a tablet to write at the time, and would stay up in bed after the house was asleep and just write. There would be nights where I only got five hours of sleep, but I had a dream and a goal, and I was determined to make it happen.

There’s a saying I heard once, and I will probably butcher it here, but here goes: Einstein had just as much time in the day that you do. This was a saying I either saw in a book (or online) about being a writer. The idea here was that you have the same hours in the day as anybody else who has ever accomplished something, and you have to make those hours count.

I sacrifice any free time I can to chase the writer’s dream. I don’t watch shows on Netflix (I am so behind on most of them) and I try not to fall down rabbit holes on the internet. The reason for this is that I consistently make time for my family first, which doesn’t always leave me any excess during the day. All of my personal time is dedicated to what I can produce, and I won’t produce anything if I just get on social media and talk about writing instead of doing it. So that’s the secret; make every second count, and rely on the structure of your day to predict when you can do it.

Right now, I average about three hours a day of writing time. This includes editing, marketing, etc. A good chunk of this time is done while in bed (I get around seven hours of sleep). I work through plot points while doing dishes or driving somewhere. At one point, I remember I was writing character dialogue on my phone while going to the bathroom at work. I would actually have a little bit more time to write right now if not for COVID, because none of the day camps are open and I can’t get a babysitter.

But that’s okay. When you do something you love, you really won’t miss your favorite shows anyway.

Describe yourself in 5 words or less!
I appreciate a good sandwich

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
My story is unique, because I dove into writing erotica head first.

I submitted my first story to Literotica on the same day that I started my Patreon page. This wasn’t an act of confidence, but one of necessity. I had never actually written a dirty story on my computer, but I had written plenty on paper and in my head. It was embarrassing to see the words so starkly embedded on the glaring white background of Microsoft Word.

So why necessity? I had a couple of days off from work and put together a Patreon page and finished writing the dirty bits of that first chapter. I didn’t think this plan would actually work, and was nervous, and needed to just click Submit and then walk away.

My first chapter posted to Lit on August 31st, 2017. I was floored to see that almost fifty people had rated my story already, and my first Patron signed up that very night.

In the weeks that followed, I was a wreck. I was writing as fast as I could and constantly checking messages and reviews on Lit while using my phone as a hotspot so that my employer couldn’t see my browsing history. I was getting some amazing feedback from people who demanded more, and when I finished the novel in December of that year, I felt so accomplished. Not only had I written a story to completion, but I actually had readers who still wanted more. Seeing comments and happy freakouts on Literotica that I actually finished my tale was an amazing feeling for me, and definitely when I felt like a real writer.

What inspired you to write this book?
I’ve been an anime fan since I was a teen, and I’ve been an erotica fan since the age of *coughs* eighteen, definitely eighteen. *cough*

Anyway, one of my favorite anime at the time before my first book was a show called Monster Musume. I really enjoyed the erotic tension between the main character and all of the monster girls he lived with, but in true anime-harem fashion, nothing filthy ever happens. I always wondered what a story would look like if sex was allowed, but never thought more of it.

When I sat down to write Radley’s Home for Horny Monsters, this idea came back to me. What would a story look like if the main character was allowed to have sex with all of the characters? In my original draft, I had a few monster girls cooked up and figured that the main character would inherit a home full of them, but I was met with a few problems in that I needed something more.

I was an avid horror fan growing up (and still am) and I often think about the movie House 2. For those who don’t know, the movie takes place in an old house that acts as a nexus for different dimensions, and they end up in an ancient temple in the fireplace, a prehistoric world in one of the bedrooms, you get the gist.

So my idea was: what if a house like this had a mysterious past and a bunch of sexy monsters living in it? Originally, this started kind of as a joke, but the house and the characters resonated very well with readers, which is why I am currently writing the rough draft of book four right now. As the story progresses, more monsters are revealed, and the house itself continues to expand from the inside.

That, and the story is so much fun to write, I love all my monsters and the adventures they get to go on.

What can we expect from you in the future?
From the moment I decided to publish Radley’s Home for Horny Monsters, I’ve had some pretty big ideas as to where I would like to go with this career.

Obviously the material is a bit niche, and I would love to round it out. I am currently getting ready to wrap up the rough draft of book four of the Horny Monsters series. I also have a related novel releasing later this year about an arachne who finds love with a vietnam soldier (it takes place in the sixties). I am also working on a spin-off novel involving Lily the succubus.

I have several more books planned in the Horny Monster series beyond book four, and even more ideas for spin-offs in the same universe. My big dream is to make enough money that I can write full-time and start doing short stories in the same universe, as well as erotic shorts like Quarantined: with my hot roommates. Just some silly little stuff to put the offspring through college, maybe allow me to travel more and (if I was really lucky) allow my spouse to retire early.

I would really like to build my name into a brand of erotica that readers can trust for quality. To get there, I’ve had to work for it. And while I feel like I am further behind where I want to be, I’m hoping I can keep the momentum going.

Do you have any “side stories” about the characters?
When I create a character, I do come up with a full backstory that needs to make sense. Each one of the monsters in the Radley house is there because they were either A) threatened with extinction/extermination or B) a social outcast in their own tribe, so to speak. As a result, the side stories actually write themselves, and I am currently in the middle of writing a spin-off story involving Lily the succubus that goes into her sordid history.

My readers have begged me to write a small anthology with short stories about the denizens of the home, which is something I would really like to do. I actually wrote a Patreon-exclusive short story as a Christmas surprise that involved Tink taking a trip to the North Pole to fix the heating vents at Santa’s Workshop. The results were disastrously hilarious, and I get emails about writing more stories like that all the time.

I have another character in mind who is likely to get her own novel at some point, but I’m afraid I have to keep that under wraps.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Radley’s Home for Horny Monsters?

When I first started writing Radly’s Home for Horny Monsters, I had it in my mind that every character actually had some job inside of the house.

Naia, the water nymph, was originally going to be how water pressure was supplied to the whole area. Instead, she became the de facto guardian of the home while it sleeps. In between Caretakers, all of the monsters who live there are stored away (magically) so that people can’t break in and harass them. It is Naia’s job to test the new owner and make sure that they are a good fit for the home.

Tink the goblin is the home’s very own handy-monster. With her magical goggles, she can look at anything and know exactly how it is broken. Despite a brain injury that has given her a very rough speech pattern, she is actually incredibly smart, though she does have a very foul mouth.

Abella the gargoyle is the muscle. She watches the home to make sure that nobody tries to start anything. However, she also has a human fetish, which is considered very strange among her own kind.

Cecilia the banshee sits on the front porch and only has one job. When the Caretaker dies, she escorts their soul to the other side.

Each of these characters (except for Naia) are very lonely. However, Mike (our main character) has grown up with this loneliness, and decides he wants to help. His ability to empathize and see past his new roommates monstrous nature makes for some interesting scenes.

Oh, and never forget Lily. She’s a succubus, and she gets sent into the home to kill him.

Do you see writing as a career?
I am actually in the very rare position right now of making writing my full time career.

Now, if you can imagine, this is something I have dreamt of ever since I was little. I often imagined the freedom to travel as I please, visit old castles, travel on cruise ships, and just write, write, write on my laptop. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it?

However, any writer doing this as a career will warn you that a solid chunk of your time gets spent on marketing, editing, crying in the dark, and missing family events as you try to squeeze a thousand more words onto your screen while you are in the zone.

I think writing as a career gets a lot of hype because many people don’t see the hard work and long hours that are required for it. Short of writing a one-hit wonder and living off the proceeds of that forever, it will always take a level of dedication that I think is mandatory for any viable career. You will have days you want to quit, and you will burn out from time to time.

Still, a career you love is worth its weight in gold, and as long as you can take it seriously and put in the hours, I see it as a very viable way to make a living.

What do you think about the current publishing market?
This is an interesting question for an erotica author, so I will speak to the industry as a whole for now.

In terms of traditional publishing, I see the system as a self-sustaining machine. Once you get in, you have the weight of an entire industry behind you, and if your story resonates with readers, it is far easier to maintain momentum and find opportunities. The wrought-iron gates that keep the majority of writers out can be climbed with plenty of hard work and more than a little luck, but it can be so hard to navigate the industry as an outsider.

Indie publishing has come a long way, but it’s definitely in its Wild West days, in my opinion. The boundary for publishing a book is so exceedingly low that authors have to work much harder to accomplish anything of note. For every person who publishes a well-written novel, there are a thousand more who are tossing up first drafts with naught but visions of giant paychecks in their heads. This would bother me much less if it didn’t create the image that indie authors aren’t legitimate writers.

This has also created a dearth of vanity publishers and other industry “professionals” who will play on your hopes and dreams of being a real writer, but at a price. If you travel in indie circles like I do, you will find many cautionary tales of writers who spent some big bucks only to make nothing back on their investment, and now a company owns their intellectual property. Now I’m not necessarily talking about editors or cover artists here (who you should still vet for quality), but people who will tell you that they will do all the work for a low fee of hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Anyway, in terms of erotica, traditional publishers have far more latitude when it comes to erotica. Fifty Shades of Gray is traditionally published and has a wonderful PR machine behind it. Word of mouth can be combined with advertising to make it self sustaining. As an indie, this isn’t possible. I can’t even advertise my books on Amazon because they are “erotic in nature.” Indie erotica is even worse in terms of quality, because people have been convinced that a quick buck can be made writing smut (which it can be if done properly) and the waters are super infested with niche kinks of every design. For me, this means more time doing keyword research just to keep up with the constant stream of uploaded content, which is something a traditional publisher can afford to outsource.

In short, traditional publishing can afford to take some serious hits, and I don’t see it going anywhere soon. Indie publishing can be just as effective, but it all relies on word of mouth and requires a ton of work just to stay relevant and active in a field where hundreds of new authors are throwing their hats into the ring every week.

Do you read yourself and if so what is your favorite genre?
I used to be a voracious reader, but that was in the “Before” days when I wasn’t sinking twenty hours a week into writing my own material.

These days, when I am between chapters, I am known for taking a weekend and reading a few books (I read really fast). My tastes can vary depending on the seasons. For example, I am more likely to read some YA fantasy in the winter when I can’t be outside because of the weather. I can usually read either a series or a couple of different books before I get bored with it, but that depends solely on recurring themes between different authors.

I used to read a lot of sci-fi, but I don’t have the mental capacity these days for some of the heavier stuff (think interstellar politics and tremendous levels of world building), so unless the story is light and fluffy, I won’t dig in unless it captures my attention right away. Blakely Crouch is the last science fiction author I’ve read at the suggestion of a friend, and I really enjoyed Dark Matter shortly after it came out.

My go-to tales these days are ghost stories, particularly haunted house ones done by indie authors. Most of these tales are typically one-shot stories, and whenever I am on vacation, I will subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and burn through about ten of them (or more). I will occasionally find some real gems in there that stick with me, but most of them are good enough that I mark the author as someone to watch.

As for horror novels themselves, I am a long-time King fan (though some of his recent works haven’t landed well with me). His son Joe Hill is a great writer as well, I just recently finished his vampire tale NOS4A2.

Do you prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?
When I sit down at the computer with my muse, I have to avoid the first potential pitfall of writing. You might think that I am referring to plot development, an outline, or even in-depth character development.

I am, of course, referring to my potential playlist.

I love to listen to music when I write, but it has to fall into one of a couple categories. It either has to be without lyrics or in another language. I typically look up a mood and add the word ‘epic’ to it on Youtube (my music player of choice), or even listen to video game soundtracks as a safeguard to prevent me from blowing thirty minutes trying to find a song that’s “just right.”

I discovered a long time ago that a song with lyrics will actually distract me, especially if it is one of the first songs that pops up on the playlist. I compare it to falling asleep. We are blissfully unaware of that step between consciousness and dreaming where we simply cease to exist, that place where time has no meaning. While I will occasionally try to tailor a playlist to a certain mood within my story (most of my characters have music that I associate with them), I definitely require my music to act as a lullaby and guide me to that lucid state of writing.

Once I am in the zone, the noise in the room vanishes and I am now entirely inside of my own head. It isn’t uncommon for me to realize that the music has stopped long ago, and my spouse has definitely caught me wearing headphones when the music is definitely no longer playing.

While it isn’t necessary that I listen to music, it certainly helps me find my stride by chasing away the outside world just long enough to allow me to slip into the visions I am trying to create on paper.

How do you stay focused on one story for so long without writing something else?
I think it’s very common for a writer to, midway through any story, suddenly be struck by another idea. It’s very much like that popular meme where a man is walking with his girlfriend, but he has turned away to look at a “prettier” woman.

Those new stories demand attention, and it can be so satisfying to indulge them, if even only for a few minutes. When you decide to sit down and write a story, it’s very much like entering into a relationship. You have to decide how badly you want to remain committed from day one.

The Home for Horny Monsters series (which is still being written) weighs in at over half a million words as of today. I am nearing completion on the first draft of book four, and hope to start editing book three any day now. The reason I bring this up is because I believe that this series will help me gain the readership necessary to bring proper attention to other stories I want to tell.

Like many other authors, I have a file folder on my computer full of stories that died within the first ten thousand words. It’s a natural instinct to want to chase these stories, but you can’t ever publish anything if you never chase them to completion. The couple of times I’ve chosen to indulge in those instincts was to write some short stories that helped flesh out the monster-verse, but that was it.

Do I want to write a science fiction story with erotic elements? Oh yeah. What about a romantic tale about a woman recapturing that magic spark with her husband after twenty years of marriage? Mmm-hmm. I make notes to myself about these tales and feverishly work on what I have in the hopes that, someday, I can have it all.

How do you balance a roster of unique, yet relatable characters?
As the Horny Monster series has grown and evolved, I’ve definitely run into an issue having such a large cast of characters. Readers love meeting new monsters and learning how they interact with Mike on a personal level, and that has been one of the mainstays of the series.

However, I think the balance lies in finding creative ways to limit the number of participants in each novel. When I introduce new characters, I think about how they will relate to other members of the house, and if those relationships will help carry the story forward.

It’s been difficult to do, partially because I never want to make a story where some characters just don’t exist for some reason. I am actually writing a spin-off novel starring Lily the succubus to explain her absence during book three, and in book four, a new addition to the monster roster shorts out the ancient electrical system in the house, forcing Tink to spend several days stringing new wire through the home. These characters never go away, but they definitely move around along the sidelines.

As for being relatable, whenever I create a new character, I think of the process like the formation of a snowflake. Snowflakes are some of the most beautiful, intricate things that can be found in nature, but they require a single speck of dust or pollen to form in the first place. I pull this speck from myself, or somebody I know really well, and allow the crystals to grow.

For example, Tink wants Mike to love her. That’s it, and it’s at the core of everything she does. Cecilia wants him to see her for who she is, because she’s lonely. Abella wants to indulge her curiosity, etc. Through the layers of complexity, I think readers can really feel and relate to these core concepts.

Do you plan your books or write them by the seat of your pants?
I’m sure you are hoping for a very compelling and detailed answer, so here you go:

Both!

I have an outline in my brain about how I want the opening scene of the book to look and how I want the ending scene to look. I create an overarching plot for the book that allows me plenty of freedom to write by the seat of my pants and allow my characters to run free in the world I have created.

Now, I also use this process for each chapter. The big difference there is that once I start the chapter, I promise myself that I do not have to end up where I want my characters to be. Sometimes, this means that what should have happened takes an additional chapter or two (or never even happens in the first place!). New characters and story elements that I have written off to the side will sometimes come up to me and scream “I would be perfect for this moment!” and I do my best to listen.

A good example is the characters in Book One. Naia the nymph, Abella the gargoyle, and Cecilia the banshee were all planned in early chapters, but while writing a passage about Mike trying to fix Naia’s fountain, it occurred to me that the house must have had a monstrous handyman. That single thought created the character of Tink the goblin, who has been hands-down a fan favorite. amongst readers. I have a few characters in my books that never should have existed, but sort of sprang into being as a result of writing off the cuff.

Also, a benefit of being active with my reading community is I get to see dialogue and excitement over where they think the story is going, and this sometimes sparks magnificent ideas that I can incorporate as well.

I do have the overall plot of the next few books already planned out, but there will be surprises, both for myself and my readers. I know I can’t wait to find out!

I like the type-font for the title. The girl on the front doesn't particularly match my mental image of Tink, but the series itself is fantastic. Been following since the first chapter was posted to Literotica. Keep the story coming!

The font is Cinzel Decorative.

Your mental image of Tink is always the right one, I give artists (like the cover designer) some free rein in how they portray them is all.

I've read the book on Amazon and most of the next couple on literotica. I love it! It's a great mix of erotica and plot and the characters are all interesting and different. It is interesting that you chose Tink for the cover since I think of Naia as the face of the books.

It's all about marketing. Cover was made for people unfamiliar with the story, and Tink was a bit more monstrous is all. Original cover (which wasn't as good) had Naia and Lily on it.

I read this by virtue of being a patreon member; but will be buying the books as well. This story (and Last Arachne) are - hands down - worth your time to read.

My first thought was that she... looks like Fiona from Shrek? hehe

On a more somber note, I've never read your work before, but your "last day on Earth" makes me need to.

How did it feel when you got the quote ""If you like sexy fantasy, and I do, this is one great read." -Piers Anthony," ?

Pretty damn amazing, actually. I read so many of his books in high school and college, so it was exciting to be acknowledged by somebody who I read so much. I really like his Apprentice Adept series.

I actually had a reader reach out to him with a synopsis of my story and Piers said it sounded interesting, so I got permission to mail him a copy. He read it and wrote a whole review on his site (January 2019 if I remember right). Put a pretty big smile on my face.

I would have totally fallen out! Love the Adept series, but Xanth holds a place in my heart. I now live not too far from Centaur Aisle, but grew up near the "Gap Chasm" :) Got me thru a few Ohio winters before I got back down here.
