Red Door
A Cry In the Moon's Light Book 2
by Alan McGill
Genre: Historical Horror Fantasy

Picture
This is the story of a beautiful peasant girl and a farm boy who fall in love in the South of France, years before she becomes mi Lady, the Duchess of Harcourt and he becomes . . . something else. It is also the story of William de Parlimae, their childhood companion, whose path takes a different turn.

As children, the three played together. But when the Lord’s son embarks on an important mission with his two closest friends, they find that they’ve stepped past the threshold of youth and into a long, dark night filled with nightmares, cruelty, and vicious beasts.

In the darkness, the two lovers seek refuge at an abandoned village deep in the Dark Forest. But will the moon’s light be enough for them to tell friend from enemy, poison from perfume, and the stuff of dreams from the horrors around them?

Alan McGill is an American author who lives in Northwestern Pennsylvania with a clowder of cats. Alan was close to his grandparents who grew up in the Great Depression. They were married young and remained together until his grandmother’s passing. His grandfather served in the Navy during WWII and was a gifted storyteller who weaved humorous tales about tough events. Alan grew up with these stories of right and wrong along with watching fictional heroes such as The Lone Ranger, Adam West’s Batman and Captain America. Heroes who stood up to bullies and protected those who could not protect themselves. This made an impression on the author to always do what was right in his own life and shaped his love for storytelling. He is a multi-genre author with his debut novel being A Cry in the Moon’s Light which is a horror romance and mystery series. As with all his books, one of the primary themes involves characters who strive to do the right thing regardless of the adversity they face. The second theme present in all his books is love. A pure and deep love that defeats all evil.

Thanks! I just responded on the tour site, LOL. The cover really captures a big part of the book. From the opening dream sequence with the apparition playing the violin in a hidden village, to the deadly Red Door flowers which the undead creatures fear! I'm really proud of what Emily of Emily's World of Design did there.

How long did it take you to write your book?

Reply
ALAN MCGILL
9/9/2022 09:42:18 pm

It only took a few months. I wrote book one A Cry in the Moon's Light over 20 years ago. I revisited it in 2020 and did a re-write. First put it out as an audio drama podcast which did so well I decided to self publish. I wrote the second book The Undead Wars in 5 months, but I decided a prequel to tell the love story between the two MC's and the how / why the black wolf hates her so much, was needed before going any further. That's also a podcast and was released today as well. I'll be putting both out as Audiobooks soon as well.

I wrote book one twenty years ago after developing some stories for an online game I was playing. I revisited this in 2020 and first released it as an audio drama I narrated. I wrote book two, but decided I wanted to tell the love story of the two MC's but I also wanted to tell the story of the black wolf!

Where do you get your inspiration to write?

Reply
ALAN MCGILL
9/13/2022 04:32:54 pm

That's a tough question to answer. This is a prequel to the A Cry in the Moon's Light series. Book one came from an online game I was playing back in the early 2000's. It was a battle or war game with several fantasy races. I chose Undead and used to write large battle descriptions to entertain my kingdom mates. It inspired me to write this werewolf love story kind of thing. Once I was engaged with the characters, it took a life of it's own. I've never felt there was a great werewolf movie out there. To me, they were always okay, but not great. I decided to write my own with the idea that this is what I'd like to see. As I write, I am there and entertained. Which is my goal, to entertain folks with these stories.

Thank you for saying so. I love the cover too. Emily of Emily's World of Design put it together for me. She really did a great job. Everything you see is an element of the story. The ghost violin player is a prominent feature in the story as nightmares haunt the main character. She finds herself hiding in a forgotten cemetery deep in the Dark Forest. A pack of wolves led by a werewolf surround her, but the "Red Door" flowers secret a deadly poison they will not challenge.

I think it is. When I narrated the audiodrama podcast I got a lot of comments on the show. There were lots who thought the story was unique. It's a different take on some old fairy tales, but is a story all it's own. I like to think of it as a throwback to old horror films and creatures. The first book and this prequel, RED DOOR, are the opening to a much bigger and expansive world. The UNDEAD WARS really gets the meat of things. I have a illustrated companion guidebook called "Father Daniel's Compendium of the Undead" which brings everything together. I hope you enjoy it.
