The American Holocaust
by Brady Cruze
Genre: Coming of Age Fiction

Picture
Is the Holocaust really over? That is the question Jacob Rossner has asked himself every day since his family fled Nazi Germany for the United States. Jacob soon discovers that the so-called Promised Land is far from perfect as he journeys from New York to Raleigh. This coming of age tale examines racism and prejudice through the eyes of a child who was forced to grow up too soon, but who finds love and acceptance in unexpected places.

Brady Cruze was born in Uruguay. At the age of 12 arrived to the US and quickly enrolled in school. While in the 10th grade, Brady wrote a four page story on racism for an English class assignment. That four page story was the basis for The American Holocaust. After fourteen years of working on the book, Brady was able to publish it in 2018. Brady has experienced first hand the devastating results racism in the US even many decades after the civil rights movement. In The American Holocaust, Brady makes the argument that the US has another kind of Holocaust in it's hands and that racism is still a big part of everyday culture.

Gosh..this sounds heart-wrenching, with everything else going on in the world.. Hatred, racism.. It never should've happened. Ever.

I wanted to get the reader attention right away with the cover. Therefore I decided to go with a less conventional cover avoiding the big don't letters in the front and having a picture instead that can say more than a regular title with words.

This is a great read and similar to a book I read about a black teen who got into trouble in Philadelphia and had to go live with his uncle and aunt in Bel Air.

Such an important message. Everyone needs to read this book because of how relevant it is right now. It’s crazy how history repeats itself and this book really highlights the patterns of oppression and human suffering.

Good to shed some light on some history, especially during this time when society clearly is being held back.

I want to thank Brady Cruze for all of his support for my community over the years. He worked tirelessly to enriched our lives and I hope to see him again one day. After I left the Army, Brady Cruze helped me go from part time server at a BBQ joint to running my own accounting firm after much encouragement. He is a true friend to all chocolate and dark chocolates alike.

WOW! What a great story! It gives me chills everytime I think about it. It's a beautiful story that will draw the reader in fast and furious and not let go until long after you have finished reading it. I laughed, got mad and even cried while reading this book. Brady Cruz delivers a story that few authors can on a subject that most are to afraid to tackle. This is Pulitzer Prize worthy.

Chapter One1988:
Raleigh, North Carolina
“Nigger, nigger, nigger!” The hateful word rang through the hallway of the public high school, the sound ricocheting off the metal lockers.

That is the very first paragraph of the book.
