VERITY is the second book in The Dead Planet Series
Twenty-five hundred years in the future humans have colonized Mars. The advancements in technology have taken humanity to a new world, but in that new society the problems of old have once again taken root. Corruption and murder are on the rise, but not from lowlifes on the streets. The real threat to civilization lies in the one world governing entity known as The Syndicate.
Armed with money and power, The Syndicate rules with an iron fist. Their form of government has brought forth an era of humanity that has surpassed every empire in human history, but behind that veil of wealth is The Agency; an organization of Policemen who do anything except protect and serve.
Against incredible odds, Serus Blackwell, a Policeman within The Agency, is determined to save humanity from a horrible truth discovered by his sister Kara. In the crosshairs of The Syndicate, Serus fights to save the only member of his family he has left–and in the process, might end up saving himself.
After arriving on planet Earth, Serus and Kara are taken prisoner by a local group of soldiers. Knowing that The Syndicate will do anything to stay in power, Serus forms an unlikely alliance in order to stop The Syndicate from taking control of Earth and hope to find the answers they need in order to save the people on Mars. But it may be too late!

When I turned thirty-years-old something in me changed. It wasn’t a mid-life crisis, but a simple form of self-exploration which resulted in me taking a barometer to my past goals and seeing where they measured up. I was married, check; had kids, check; owned a home, check. I even had a career that allowed me to support them. But those weren’t the goals I held up to the light. Instead, I focused on the aspirations that excited me as a kid. The short list was to become a rock star, an astronaut, a comic book artist, and a writer.

Now, I can get into all the ways the first three weren’t going to work out, but what’s important is goal number four. I was not a kid who enjoyed reading books, but my dad said he would buy me every comic book on the shelf as long as I read them. Needless to say, I owned a lot of comic books as a kid in the nineties. What eventually sparked my longing to write a book, though, was when I had saved some lunch money that I wanted to burn on a new stack of comics, but there was nothing on the shelves I didn’t already own. It was then that I decided to browse the magazine and book racks and my eyes fell on something that caught my eye. It was a book featuring a comic book character! “What Savage Beast” by Peter David, is a novelization of the Incredible Hulk. I contemplated the purchase, knowing that books were not my thing, but my curiosity nudged me along and I bought it.

All said, I read it cover to cover three times in about as many weeks.

Something changed in my perspective, and it had a positive impact on the rest of my life. I was no longer the kid who hated books, I was the kid who wanted to write a book.

Fast forward fourteen years and I finally took the first steps towards making that happen. Exodus was written for National Novel Writing Month 2012. It was my first book and it began my career as a published author. I was bitten by the writing bug, and have since published more than twenty books. I guess I should thank the Hulk, huh?

A few facts about my first book, Exodus:
  1. I wrote the first draft of Exodus on my iPhone 4S and it took me twenty-four days to complete NaNoWriMo.
  2. I watched Falling Skies at the time and pictured the actor Drew Roy as my protagonist. Other actors I envisioned as characters is Rachel Nichols from Continuum as Kera, Donald Sutherland as Pontiff White, and Bruce Willis as Gentry.
  3. Several people have mentioned Exodus being similar to Robocop and/or Total Recall. But the truth is, neither of those movies came to mind during the writing process. I my mind, The Matrix meets Blade Runner is what I was going for. At least all these movies are in the same genre lol.

"a world controlled by a militant force; where humanity's purpose is to make the rich richer" noooooo it seems as if this has already taken course on planet Earth! And they are responsible for our downfall if this remains unchecked for years to come.
