“It sounds completely crazy out loud, but before I came in here to call you, I swear I heard a woman’s voice,” I say, scrunching my face.
“Like, your dad has a woman in the house and hasn’t told you?” Wade asks, his eyes wide.
I shake my head and narrow my eyes. “Nah. I don’t think so.”
“Are you sure?”
“Pretty sure,” I nod. “She said, welcome home, Autumn.”
Wade’s lips part, then close again. His eyes dart downward as he thinks. “So, what? You think there’s a ghost?”
“Don’t be ridiculous. Ghosts aren’t real. But I am a little concerned about my mental health. There’s a lot I haven’t dealt with from my past and I wonder if maybe I’m seeing strange things that aren’t really there.”
“I don’t think so. I know you’re very science-minded, but you also live in a supernatural world. You’re going to a supernatural school for godsake. Is it really that unheard of to think you might have ghosts?”
“Honestly, I don’t know. Growing up, my mom forbid me to look into the supernatural. She always pointed me to scientific theory and the explainable. It’s part of the reason I wanted to be a forensic scientist. I wanted to be able to understand death, not make excuses for it. Besides, have you ever seen a ghost?” I ask, narrowing my eyes.
Wade shakes his head. “Well, no, but I believe they exist.”
“How can you be so sure?” I snicker.
Wade’s eyes go distant and a thoughtful expression paints itself across his face. “Let’s just say, in my line of work, it’s almost part of the job.”
“That makes no sense,” I say.
“It would if you’ve seen what I have,” Wade says, laughing softly.
“What? What’s so funny?” I say incredulously.
With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, he says, “Maybe you really did move to Hogwarts.”

The Windhaven Witches Book 2

Picture
Turns out being the town’s only necromancer could pose some problems when the dead won’t stay dead.

The new semester of Windhaven Academy is about to start, and already Autumn Blackwood’s life is in jeopardy. Rumors are swirling around the school that Autumn and her boyfriend are raising the revenants, and Autumn worries they might be right.

What if the resurrection she performed last semester wasn’t as successful as she thought? What if she really is the cause of the dead returning to life?
Soon, Autumn and her boyfriend find themselves in the center of a supernatural federal investigation that could land them both in prison—or something far worse. And if Autumn doesn’t find out what’s really behind the soulless scourge quickly enough, everyone she cares about could be next on the death toll.

Scurrying backward, I try to get far enough away so I can stand, but the creature claws at my legs, digging in and pulling herself further up my body with her good hand. Biting my lip, pain tears through my right ankle from both the sprain and the boney fingertips, as they bear down on my flesh. With my good foot, I rear up, kicking down as hard as I can at the place between her neck and shoulder. The momentum is enough to loosen her grip as she skitters down my leg and nearly falls off.
A loud thumping sound reverberates through the otherwise still cemetery. It starts off low, but then starts to grow louder until a grinding sound takes its place. Terror rises, as does a scream in the back of my throat, as I try to get upright and see what’s causing the sound.
Somewhere close by, Wade yells, “Get out of the goddamn way—”
Using any remaining strength I have in my left leg, I plant another kick on the creature’s face and struggle completely out of her grasp. I no sooner pull back my legs as an enormous granite headstone comes crashing down onto the zombie’s outstretched body. The weight of it flattens her upper torso, severing her head from the rest of her body. It rolls forward unceremoniously and lands face up in the snow.
Shuddering away the adrenaline, I scoot back another foot or two for good measure. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to break my gaze away from the severed head.
“How did you know that was going to work?” I say, clutching at my chest and sucking in large gulps of frigid oxygen.
Wade plops down into the snow, knees first, then drops onto his back, gasping for air. After a moment he says, “Years of watching way too much TV.”

Haunted Legacy
The Windhaven Witches Book 3

Picture
Being haunted by ghosts isn’t unusual for Autumn, but this time it’s someone she didn’t think was dead.

Autumn’s world is a life of ghosts, death, and destruction. The last thing she wants is to be the cause of her boyfriend’s early demise. Especially when she’s already been warned by the Angel of Death to stay away from him. So, to keep Wade safe, there’s only one thing to do: end it.
But of course, fate doesn’t let them off the hook that easy. Thrust together for a school project, Wade is put right in the line of fire when an unexplained, and surprisingly violent, haunting erupts at Blackwood Manor.
To figure out how to stop it, Autumn has to communicate with the spirit, but it will do anything to protect its identity. The deeper Autumn digs, the more sinister the truth becomes. Devastated and vulnerable, Autumn has to face the facts and find a way to end the ghost’s deadly attacks. Otherwise, both she and Wade will become the ghost’s next victim.

Haunted Legacy is the third installment of the Windhaven Witches series – a spine-tingling supernatural suspense series that will have you questioning everything you think you know! Fans of Deborah Harkness, Kelley Armstrong, and Anne Rice will love The Windhaven Witches by Carissa Andrews!

Once again, I walk the dark tunnels of the catacombs in anticipation. There’s something very important I need to do. Everything is pitch black, but somehow I know my way around and the direction I’m heading, as if a compass has been embedded inside my mind.
Suddenly no longer alone, I can feel Abigail’s presence walking beside me. Though the tunnel remains dark, I’m acutely aware of her, as if I can see her in my mind’s eye. We walk in silence for a few moments. It’s not entirely uncomfortable, but there’s an agitated energy lingering in the air between us.
I’m here for a reason.
Abigail takes my hand, pressing her cool, unearthly palm against mine. Suddenly, we’re no longer in the catacombs, but somewhere outside.
“There is much I should have been truthful about,” Abigail says, her voice soft.
I’m oddly aware of my state—a strange sort of lucid dream. While I’m sure this place exists, I’m also aware it’s all happening inside my mind. The only thing I don’t know is whether I’m in control, or if Abigail is.
I stare down at the scattered evidence of a circle—one that vaguely tugs at my memories, though I can’t place why. It’s off in the recesses of the dreamworld and no matter how I try to focus on it, it slips through the cracks of my mind.
While the circle is evident, it has seen the seasons come and go. How many is hard to distinguish. Inside are the remnants of a ritual—salt, water, candles… As well as a tattered red string. It’s almost exactly like the ones I’ve been finding, but this one has been faded in time’s weathering gaze.
Abigail stares down at the circle, her eyebrows tugging inward as she frowns at the contents within. Then, she turns slightly to the left, her eyes landing on a small pile of leaves and brambles. No words are necessary, as I instinctively follow her gaze.
At first, it appears like any other part of the forest. But there, slightly obscured by nature and time itself, are the remains of a human body.

Cursed Legacy
The Windhaven Witches Book 4

Picture
How do you break a family curse set by the Fates themselves?

The Blackwood family curse is closing in on Autumn. No matter where she goes, the tattered red threads of the Moirai follow her. It’s only a matter of time and she’ll join the early grave of so many Blackwoods before her. What’s worse, the curse is expanding and threatening to take more lives.
Expelled from his birthright for loving a necromancer, Wade is now a completely mortal--and vulnerable human. If he dies, there’s no coming back because not even Autumn can save him when fate and death conspire.
After an eye-opening revelation, Autumn realizes everything about her crazy, supernatural life has been built on a lie. And that lie is about to wipe out her entire lineage forever. With time running out, will Autumn find a way to appease the Fates and break the curse?

“Autumn, wait. What if…” he reaches out, grabbing my hand and pulling me up short. “What if it’s one of the Moirai?”
The word snaps me out of my trance like a slap in the face.
The Moirai…
I blink back my surprise, appalled that the thought hadn’t even entered my mind. It should have been the first thing I thought. Yet, the moment I saw her, any concern for myself vanished completely and all I knew was I needed to catch up with her.
“Oh god,” I say, pressing my fingertips to my mouth.
I spin around on the spot, searching for the woman, but her footsteps have disappeared on the snow, as if she led me here and vanished.
Beside us is a large statue of an angel. I’ve never noticed it before, in the many times I’ve visited this cemetery. Its face is tilted in anguish, tears carved across its marble face that look realistic in the dying sunlight. Its arms are outstretched, as if reaching for an offering. And there, dangling between the outstretched fingers, is another tattered red thread.
My eyes drift to the bronze plate at its feet. The words read: I pledge my soul for your sins and ask God Almighty to remove their burden from you and place them with me to consume.
I shudder at the imagery those words invoke.
Was she leading me here to atone for my sins? Or was she leading me to my death, in order to consume the mistakes of my ancestors?

Hi Christy! Thanks so much! I enjoyed designing the covers a lot! As for writer's block... I wouldn't say I get that so much. I usually have a pretty good sense of where I plan to go, which keeps me focused and on track. That being said, there are definitely some scenes that are harder than others. Fight scenes, in particular, are ones I really have to slow down and take my time with. They drag out in my head because I have to picture everything like it's been slowed down to a crawl. HA!

Great covers. The black backgrounds with the brighter colors really make them stand out. Sounds like a great series of books. Will add them to my tbr list.
