 I have been a writer for as long as I can remember.  I wrote for pleasure as a child, not just to fulfill homework assignments.  Looking back, it is clear to me that my core skill has been with me from my earliest years—namely, a keen sense of narrative.  I use that sense of story to understand people, including the many very influential leaders I have interviewed.  It was also my not-so-secret weapon in resurrecting people from the ravages of depression or PTSD or even schizophrenia, by returning them to the solid ground of their true selves.  And when I launched my talk show with Warner Brothers, the tag line was, “Your Story Matters.”

When someone asked me recently whether I find it hard to write, I replied, immediately, “It’s harder to do anything else.  Writing is as automatic as breathing is for me.”  I remember a meditation teacher I spoke with who commented, “I’ll teach you what I know, but you’re already meditating hours a day—when you write.  You’re at one with core the entire time.”  That struck me as absolute truth.
